How Do Supreme Hats Stay Popular In A Competitive Market

By Steven Howard

Supreme makes and markets Supreme Hats, which are baseball style caps intended for today's younger generation that are part of the cities street scene, known as "street couture". They started selling these types of special and stylish hats and also other street gear to skaters and artists 18 years ago inside their very first retail outlet on Lafayette Avenue in downtown Manhattan. Currently they have introduced 7 more Supreme shops which are found in Los Angeles on North Fairfax Avenue in West Hollywood as well as on Peter Street here in London's Soho district, in addition to two in Tokyo and one each inside Osaka, Fukuoka and Nagoya, Japan.

Even though company is hesitant to admit it, they just don't freely offer original items to other retailers for the reason that items are made in blatantly limited quantities to preserve the exclusivity of the brand name. Because of this marketing tool, there's a large secondary market for Supreme Hats as well as other articles of clothing, several of which are available on sites such as Ebay. Supreme originals are available in very few stores other than their own, but can be found at Colette in Paris within the rue St. Honore' and at Hide Out here in London's Soho District. In Canada, original Supreme Hats and clothing can be acquired at NOMAD, a men's clothing shop on Queen Street West present in Toronto.

Styles of Hats

Supreme Hats are widely popular, specially the five-panel hats with the large letters SUPREME across the front. These types of five-panel caps presently come in twenty-three various designs and colors which includes some with beveled logos.

A lot of the Supreme Hats have got snap back closures for much better fit. The baseball caps, called New Era, tend to be wool, have a large zebra-striped "S" across the front side and are offered in royal blue, navy, black, brown as well as red. The camp caps are cotton twill with "Supreme" around the front, zebra printed side panels and are avalable in the colors acid green, red, royal blue, as well as purple.

For original styles not shown on their website or seen in their shops, such as the Supreme Houndstooth Five Panel hat, a buyer would need to check out a web site like Ebay and most likely spend approximately $80 for it.

Besides baseball type caps, the company also makes Supreme Fitted Hats which happen to be named Beanies. Justin Bieber was photographed not too long ago carrying one of them.

Some of these knitted hats have the Supreme box logo across the front cuff and several use a plain cuff but a large "S" over the front of the hat. Virtually all have pom poms at the top. The simple and standard "beanies" have no decoration or pom pom but merely a little side tab with "Supreme" printed on it.

The beanies are available in the shades of olive drab, mauve, navy, heather grey, red, steel, black, orange, rust orange, green, pink, tan, yellow and also burgundy.
