What Is WOW Gold Farming In China And How Does It Work?

By David Smith

Many have heard of WOW gold farming in China, but you may not realize what this is, how it works, or what it has to do with this precious metal. The fact is that the gold that is referred to is not actually the mineral but a form of currency in the World of Warcraft game. There is a growing industry in China that revolves around this virtual currency, which is collected and then exchanged for actual real world currency.

This essentially works by certain establishments paying their workers to play this online game continuously for over 10 hours in a stretch every day. They'll cramp up to 30 people in a single room to repetitively do these tasks. This method works well due to the fact that a lot of Western citizens are willing to trade their money in return for the time spent to obtain this virtual currency.

Although such activities are deemed illegal in China itself, there are a lot of opinions going around that seem to favor this industry. The key argument in this regard is essentially that this particular industry is merely an innovative use of resources of a country with a struggling economy. In addition to that, this can also be seen as a type of outsourcing technique whereby the gold farmers in China are just catering to the demand of the Western countries. If anything, this should be seen as an entrepreneurial undertaking based on its success alone.

New players to the game of WOW start out at a very low level, and they get copper as a form of currency. Over time this evolves into silver as the player completes more quests and gains in levels, and eventually the highest form of currency is reached which is gold. This can take many weeks or even months of playing, and a number of individuals want the fun and benefits of the game but they do not have time to accumulate a store of this. That is where the farms come in.

The gold farmers would be willing to spend hours in obtaining these currencies which they can then sell to the other players all around the world. The currencies can then be transferred over to the other players in exchange for real world currency. The individual who has bought the in-game currency can then proceed to purchase a variety of items in the online game such as weapons, armors or consumable items. By doing this, they'll be able to explore further aspects of the game instead of having to spend huge amounts of time just farming the required currencies.
