How to Need Less Sleep And Still Be Alert in the Morning

By Emmanuel Palmer

Some people love their sleep-it is a priceless commodity given the pace that we often find ourselves in. It's not a bad thing to want to accomplish more; but did you know that it doesn't have to mean that we sacrifice a good rest to do that? You can teach your body how to need less sleep and still have an alert mind the whole day.

What is the cause of drowsiness anyway? Most people assume that it is because of lack of sleep when actually it is the quality you should be looking at. When you do not get a deep and restful sleep the previous night, you will most likely wake up all foggy minded and unfocused. To wake up refreshed and invigorated-find out what makes a good rest and do whatever it takes to do it.

One of the most effective ways to a deep sleep at night is being active during the day. Physical activity helps in making you go to sleep faster and deeper. Keep in mind though that exercise should ideally be done during mornings and afternoons. When you engage in strenuous physical exercise at night you will end up staying up longer than you might want.

Another excellent stimulant is sunlight. When you feel sleepy at work, resist the urge to double dose on that espresso and go out instead. A ten minute walk outdoors will jolt your system back to wakefulness. If however, exercise and being outdoors are not options for you, it's alright. A power nap is a vastly helpful tool in refreshing the tired mind back to its peak condition.

A quick snooze goes a long way in getting your mind back in its attentive and creative state. The main thing you have to remember is to keep it as short as comfortably possible in order to squeeze the most benefits out of it. Our sleep has different phases in it and when we disrupt it at its more advanced stages-- we wake up feeling disoriented and groggy instead of refreshed and energized. Ten to twenty minute naps are generally effective to achieve our goal.

A helpful strategy in taking short naps is utilizing the keychain technique. Get comfortable in a sitting position, while holding on to a bunch of keys. Place a large ceramic plate under you where the keys will fall to when you lose your grip on it. The clanging sound produced when you drop the keys will wake you up before you sleep for too long and interrupt your established sleeping pattern.

When you maximize the hours you are awake, as well as master the power nap; you won't just know how to need less sleep-- you will also be more productive in your waking life. Now you know the secrets of the successful go-getters-apply this now and discover a more fruitful life ahead!
