Mother's Day Gifts to Treat Mum Like Royalty

By Steve Alexander

If you really want to treat Mum to a Mother's Day to remember, why not choose from the many experiences available that are fit for a Queen?

Perhaps you would be better off investigating indoor gift experiences if you aren't confident that the March weather will fall in with your plans, or Mum is known to reach for her headscarf at the first hint of rain. A John Lewis pampering shopping day could be ideal - it's by appointment to the Queen, after all!

A jewellery-making class is great fun for Mums of a creative bent, and she'll have a beautiful hand-made keepsake to treasure afterwards. Even though she might not get to make anything worth a cool couple of billion pounds (the estimated value of the Crown Jewels).

Theatre was famously loved by an earlier Queen, Elizabeth I and her passion has left its mark on London centuries later, as well as the genius of writers like Shakespeare and Marlowe. If your mum loves the theatre too, why not treat her to a tour of Shakespeare's Globe or a theatre-themed break in the capital?

We know Her Majesty loves a flutter on the horses, so you could treat Mum to a horse racing day for two, giving her the chance to get her glad rags on (don't forget the white gloves!) and put a few quid on the favourite.

If your mum is an adventurous sort, let her hone her skills with an introductory trout fishing course. We know the Queen is partial to a spot of fly fishing when the Royal Family is staying at Balmoral. Her ability to read the waters of the River Dee like a book and know exactly when the fish are likely to be jumping is legendary. Or how about medieval jousting for something even more daring? The present Monarch may never have given it a go, but her ancestors certainly did!
