If you want to get your hands on Pennsylvania Criminal Records, visit the official webpage for the state's criminal history background information.

The webpage is referred to as the Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History. There you can find various crime-related files which, when put together, form a criminal file. An arrest file, which is created at a local police department or a county sheriff's office, is just one of the many files involved. The created file is then sent to the central repository where it is kept together with the other files.

The Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History is the website where you can locate documents that contain criminal information. Various documents are stored which are collectively known as criminal documents. One document that belongs to the collection are arrest documents, which are created at a local police department or a county sheriff's office and are then forwarded to the state's repository of criminal documents.

Criminal records are considered public records. Therefore, any person can submit a request for them. Every person has the right to access their own criminal records, if there is any. This is to allow the checking of the information found on their records and see if there are any errors. In case there are errors found, the owner of the record can submit a formal request to correct the records. If you want to obtain the records of another person, that is another story. You have to specify your reason for wanting to access them. If the office in-charge of the records is not satisfied with your reason, you will not be given access. Also, if the record being requested for is being used for an ongoing investigation, the records will not be available for public access.

Another way of obtaining criminal files is through online service providers. To commence a search, you need to know at least the name and the date of birth of the person in question. If you happen to know more about the file, you can also include them as that will increase the odds of locating the exact file. You will be charged a certain amount of fee for each request and all fees rendered are not subject to a refund.

Public Arrest Reports are very popular amongst those that acquire criminal documents because it contains very valuable pieces of information. It is standard operating procedure to create a report if a person gets arrested even if it does not lead to incarceration. It is not absolute that an arrested person is incapable of being good. However, it is a sign of a potential to do bad so it is something to take note of. If you want to dig deeper into a person's background and find out if he or she has ever been put to prison, pay your state's Department of Corrections a visit and look for that information there.
