Finding The Best Person For A Plumbing Repair

By Kenny Marcum

It is often a matter of real urgency when you want a plumbing repair. You need to act quickly to discover who will be the right person to do the work. So, you have to do some research before that emergency arises.

Often a recommendation is best. It may be that you have your own contacts in a variety of trades, like building, planning or tiling and usually these people are willing to suggest plumbers. Your family and friends might have suggestions, too. Often they will tell you who you should avoid using, too!

You should find the Internet is a comprehensive source. There are also directories for registered plumbers. Yellow pages provide similar information. Similarly, you can find a database for a variety of skilled trades people. Choose three plumbers and ask lots of questions. It should be possible to view some of their recent work. They may also have a portfolio of photographs.

If you have a specific job to be completed invite them to talk you through the work. They will tell you what they are going to do, what the cost is and how long it will take to complete. Ask for the quotation to include materials, labor and taxes. It is likely a deposit of less than 20% will be required to secure the booking. Get quotes from two other plumbers.

Make sure the plumber is insured. Also confirm that he is insured against any problems with surrounding neighbors. Check he is insurance-backed for completion if he goes out of business.

It may take a number of years to become a skilled plumber. Check his qualifications which will confirm how experienced he is as well as his skill level. For certain specialist jobs like dealing with oil-fired heating installations extra qualifications may be needed.

Supervise your plumber's progress. If you are not completely satisfied then keep written details about him, including work ethic, promptness and his efficiency and challenge him first. If your initial research was comprehensive, though, then you will be confident in your choice of person for your plumbing repair.
