Everything There Is To Know Concerning A Junkyard

By Paulette Mason

There are several names which can be used to refer to yards of this nature. A junkyard can be referred to as an automobile, wrecking, breaker, or a salvage yard. These yards are mostly used in keeping vehicles which are not in the original state of make. This implies that the vehicles have been damaged. The use of these yards depends on the owner of the promise. There are those which are individually owned and there are those which are owned by the state. The ones owned by the state are used in keeping government vehicles which have been damaged. The ones owned by individuals are used in keeping vehicles from the general public. The government yards are also used in storing vehicles from crime scenes. When you are in need of opening your own wreck yard, you need a license from the local government.

The damaged vehicles can be stored in different yards. There are those wreck yards which usually store a certain types of automobiles. There are those which are known in housing boats and others are known in housing other types of vehicles. Motorbikes also have their own yards in which they are kept. The decision on which area a yard should be dealing with is mainly determined by availability of such machines around.

The geographical area of operation is limited. This is largely due to the presence of transportation cost. The transportation cost of the wrecked vehicle from one point to another is quite expensive. The cost of transporting the damaged vehicle cannot be overlooked since most of the vehicles are un-roadworthy. This makes it necessary to tow them. The same case applies to vehicles which have not been in use for quite sometime.

There are various places from which damaged vehicles can be got from. Crash sites as well as garages forms the major part of damaged vehicle distributors. At the crash site, they can be sold either by the owner of the vehicle or by the insurance company that covers the owner. The price at which each vehicle is to be sold is usually determined by the extent of damage.

Companies operating with these types of vehicles have their own way of getting vehicles direct from where they are located. They use the towing vehicles to carry the wrecked vehicles. If a yard does not have one, it can hire it from various towing service providers.

There is wide range information taken about the damaged vehicle whenever it is taken to a yard. This information can vary from the year of manufacture to the actual manufacturer. Something else that is recorded is the model of that car.

After taking the information, the wreckage can be worked on. Important parts are separated from the unwanted parts. This is done by the yard operators.

There are some parts which are removed first. The most important parts such as the engine are also removed. They can then be used on other vehicle of the same make as spare parts.
