By Colleen Smith

You don't have to be a pro to enjoy playing sports in Las Vegas. There are a lot of great non-professional sports in Las Vegas for children and grownups looking to join a team and get active. Some opportunities let players hone their skills and work toward bigger sports achievements, while the others are simply there to let players play and have a great time.

Youth Baseball

The area's all year hot temperatures makes Vegas a true hotbed for youth baseball and amatuer teams. Las Vegas youth baseball squads are among some of the top traveling teams in the country, competing and winning many prestigious tournaments. Top Las Vegas youth baseball players can improve their abilities at the Las Vegas Baseball Academy, which offers year-long instruction and traveling teams for youth players 8 and older. The academy also puts on competitions which attract top attention from around the country.

Youth Soccer

Youth soccer carries on growing as among the preferred amateur sports in Las Vegas. Top girls and boys soccer players in Vegas can join organizations by the Nevada Youth Soccer Association, which also hosts the yearly State Cup. Indoor soccer is an alternative way for youth players to get your kicks; the Las Vegas Indoor Soccer Center hosts indoor soccer leagues for youngsters across the year together with the US Indoor National Championship.

Kickball

Kickball isn't only for children! Adults can enjoy playing this awesome retro game in leagues throughout Vegas. The World Adult Kickball Association has 1 or 2 leagues in the city of Las Vegas. Players can join teams and play weekly games while enjoying post-game food and drinks at league sponsor bars throughout Las Vegas. Vegas has a specific connection to competitive kickball. It's the home to the once a year kickball World Championships, which pulls 64 groups from across the country and pays the winning team a first prize of $20,000.

Hockey

While you won't think about Vegas as being a place for hockey, there are numerous strategies for adults and children to hit the ice and play some hockey. You can suit up at the Las Vegas Ice Center, which hosts both youth and adult leagues with leagues specially for for girls. It also hosts an introductory league that gives children a chance to learn the game.
