Aesthetics Vs. Esthetics School: The Differences

By Lucy Cho

An aesthetics school isn't exactly the same thing as an esthetics school and you need to know what the differences are. So, what classes does an esthetics school offer that are different from what another institution would offer? Why not consider a beauty school? In addition, while there are schools like beauty colleges that cover many things, some schools will concentrate on an area of specialty and be called, for instance, a laser institute. What do we need to know about these various names? In this brief piece we'll look at what the titles in beauty education really mean.

We will describe an esthetics school and discover what students may study while in attendance. Moreover, we'll see the kinds of subjects that can be studied in a beauty school or college or in an aesthetics school. Last, we'll find out about different types of schools and what they can offer their students.

Mastering the art of esthetics happens at an esthetics institution. The work of estheticians basically has to do with caring for the skin. They can be taught everything from laser hair removal to micro dermabrasion. In addition, students might learn about the correct precautions to keep themselves safe in addition to studies in sanitation practices, physiology and anatomy. In their training, medical estheticians will learn how to give injections with drugs such as Belotero, Artefill, and Botox. They can also be trained in esthetics school to use esthetic laser treatments.

Why not consider a beauty college, beauty school or an aesthetics institute? These terms are generally used to refer to a vast array of subject areas that beauty schools may cover. In general terms, beauty schools can train students for professions like being barbers, cosmetologists, nail professionals, or estheticians. (Only the final option might be provided at an esthetics school.) A cosmetology school is apt to provide a broader type of program, too. There are comprehensive programs at such beauty schools that will ensure students can do procedures on face, hair, skin, and nails, among others. Regardless of the name of the school, you need to make sure before enrolling at a college that the institution is qualified and approved to issue licenses in your state.

In addition, you can find schools whose names are more specific to their teaching, like an aesthetic laser institute. That would usually be the place where you'd learn things like removing hair or tattoos or rejuvenating skin with lasers. Hair design is another specialty that is very popular today. These programs focus on methods of styling hair and getting licensed.

Sometimes it may be tough to know what's offered at a laser institute or an esthetics school, so make sure in choosing the school you wish to attend you know what you're in for.
