Air Pollution: The Different Causes

By Lianne Derocco

It is a fact that pollution is a worldwide problem that many are facing, including the United States. People today are working hand in hand to find different ways on how to lower pollution levels. However, before we discuss ways on how to lessen pollution, let us first consider the causes of pollution today in the United States. Here are a few of the most common sources of pollution.

One of the most common energy sources on the planet in general is generated by the burning of coal and this takes roughly half of our energy reserves. It should be noted though that the burning of coal is one of the biggest contributors of air pollution in the country. Many harmful gases are emitted from coal and they are toxic to humans and animals and also can pollute water sources A person's health may be in danger with long exposure to the fumes produced from burning coal.

Cars, airplanes and other vehicles are also other factors that hugely contribute to the source or air pollution aside from coal. Vehicles are checked in many states if they pass emission control requirements to counter such problems. Such preventive measures have contributed greatly in helping improve the quality of air in many cities and states by reducing the amount of toxins released by the exhaust systems of vehicles.

Compared to the people living in rural areas, city dwellers are more prone to suffer from problems related to air pollution. However, problems related to livestock waste are common in rural areas where agriculture is one of the predominant industries. They come from different sources such as hog waste lagoons and waste pits, emitting many harmful gases. Also, local water sources are threatened by toxins that are released if there is a leak in swine lagoons which seeps in the groundwater. This is why waste should be handled with utmost care and importance.

Livestock waste is indeed considered to be toxic though it also can be used for fertilizer and many scientists are searching for ways to use this waste as a renewable source of energy. Farmers can use natural products to reduce many problems common to waste pits and waste lagoons.

Agricultural waste management products such as Agra Sphere or Lagoon Agra sphere use only natural bacteria and no chemicals. It is safe for livestock as well as farmers. They just need to be tossed into a waste pit or lagoon and they begin eating away at waste solids and liquefying waste. These spheres can eat away at the top-level crust and prevent problems such as foaming. Constant use of the spheres can stop crusting and sludge from building up and keep waste as liquid as possible. These spheres even improve the quality of waste making it a better fertilizer.
