How Do Eyebrows Grow Back After Chemotherapy

By Amanda Baird

People undergoing chemotherapy will typically experience hair loss. The reason hair loss occurs is because the drugs that are administered are designed to kill fast growing cancer cells. Unfortunately the treatments also destroy other healthy cells which result in hair loss. This can be a traumatic consequence of the treatment however it is not a permanent one. People who are worried about hair loss will want to know do eyebrows grow back when treatment is over. The answer is that they do.

Because each person is different the length of time it takes for hair to grow back after treatment ends will vary. Regrowth will also depend on the type of drugs that were used in the treatment. Some chemotherapy cocktails are not as strong as others. Depending on the potency of the drugs some folks may lose all their hair within two weeks following the first treatment or not until after the second round.

It is also common to lose eyelashes and nose hair in addition to eyebrows and the hair on the head. There are a number of things you can do to prevent the hair loss from being so noticeable. For example, a lot of women use eyebrow pencils daily to define their brows or shape them differently.

The pencil is also a great way to create the illusion that you have eyebrows. It is important to apply the pencil lightly to give the idea of eyebrows. When brows are drawn on to dark they do not have a natural appearance and are not attractive.

Chemo treatments can also cause your skin to appear chalky or ash colored. Wearing makeup will help you feel better about the changes that have taken place since starting treatment. To help you look natural instead of made up, choose colors that are muted. Adding dark or bright makeup will not look natural and will be very obvious.

It is also a good idea to use this tactic if you decide to wear wigs while having treatments. It is best to avoid wearing wigs that have dark hair. Select hair that is a little lighter than your regular color. Blond haired people will not need to worry about this if they stay with their natural color.

If you ask several people about the regrowth of eyebrows you are likely to get yes and no answers. There are different levels for fullness and some brows may not grow in as full as they once were. It may be necessary for some people to fill in with brow pencil for a fuller brow. On the other hand there are some people who experience no change from the original eyebrow.

Many patients will ask about their eyelashes but never think to ask do eyebrows grow back when chemotherapy treatments ends. This is understandable since they may have a thousand questions that seem much more important than the regrowth of facial hair. Many pose the question after they have lost their brows and surely they find comfort in knowing that they will return.
