Why should you learn self defence? It's easier to just buy a pepper spray, stun gun or even a gun. Well, it's totally true. Having any kind of weapon for self defence is a lot easier. If someone tries to rob you, just take out you pepper spray and spray at his face. He'll fall down on his knees and start crying like a baby.
Let me give you a scenario. For example, you just took out your money from the bank. While walking back to your car. Suddenly someone stopped you and tries to rob you. But your pepper spray is all the way in your bag. By the time you try to reach for it, the robber snatch your bag and ran away with all your hard earn money. It might be worse, you got into a struggle with your attacker and he manages to get your pepper spray instead. Now you are in an even worse situation.
Some of you might say, don't fight back as it is not worth it. Money can easily be replaced. Well, let's think about it. You just took out your money to pay for your husband's medical bill because your insurance doesn't cover it. Do you really just want to hand over your hard earn money to your attacker?
You just finished your night shift and on the way back to you car, suddenly you got jumped from behind. Your attacker isn't interested in your money. He wants to rape you instead. Of course you will want to fight back. You are on a date with your girlfriend. Suddenly someone punches you and tries to kidnap your girlfriend.
Self defence is really important for all cases like these. You need to have the knowledge and reflex to respond in these situations. If you get jumped from behind you need to know how to free up yourself and just run away. You need to be able protect yourself and get away from trouble the best you can. Don't prolong the fight, respond and run away.
But most of us never bother to learn self defence technique because we think it is too complicated and takes a lot of time. It's true but only if you want to some sort of muay thai (Thailand's martial art) champion or something. You do not need to spend a lot of time because your goal is not to get in a prolong fight.
It does not require a lot of time to build up your confidence and reflex. The truth is, you just need to spend 10-15 minutes two to three times per week to build up your confidence and reflex. If you like to hit the gym, you just need to swap one of your cardio exercises by doing self defence workout.
However, as long as you can defend yourself or your loved ones it really doesn't matter how you do it. If you really don't see yourself spending some time learning self defence technique, just get yourself any self defence product but make sure you always bring it with you. You can learn self defence technique and have self defence tools too. Pick which one is most comfortable for you.
