Buying Consignment Jewelry For A Gift

By Rena Hudson

When people are looking for the special gift to get that special someone jewelry is often what comes to mind first. It is the ultimate go-to and no matter who you might be getting it for you can be assured they will absolutely love it. When shopping for such gifts people often walk by the consignment jewelry section and head towards the brand new items, but if they do they are missing something.

People will often stay away from this style of item if they are aware of it. This is why most stores will just mix in the consignment jewelry with everything else. If the customer has the opportunity to fall in love with a piece before knowing its origin, then in most cases they will not care when told that it is being sold in that manner.

They do not wish to sell consignment jewelry because they feel that the items are of poor quality and cannot match up to the quality of brand new pieces. This is not true however. Many of the items that can come in for sale in this manner are of great quality and there is always the opportunity to possibly repair something that might be a little off with the item.

No jeweler who respects his craft or his shop will be willing to sell something that is of poor quality if they are aware of it. They only want to sell the best pieces they can and even if something comes in that is in need of repair, they can do just that. They do that every day, and even with newer items too.

Many stores will not even accept a piece if it is not in pristine condition. They do not want to sell something that does not have the same flair as the rest of their merchandise. However, if the items are possibly in poor condition yet able to be repaired they could always have one of their master jewelers work on it to restore it to its former glory.

They would have to considering they are willing to sell it this way. They might be looking for some extra cash or maybe they just do not want to look at the piece any longer because of what it might mean to them. Too many sour memories surround the piece so they must be rid of it. This does not mean it is damaged.

The stores do sometimes love it because they get the commission from selling it. Sometimes with pieces they may only get a small percentage of profit by the time it is sold and everything else is figured into the cost. The profits may be minimal. But by selling it this way there is no overhead because they did not manufacture it or buy it outright.

Selling consignment jewelry is a good idea for any jeweler. The opportunities that come from it are endless. Not to mention in some cases a rare item may one day walk through your doors and give you the chance to sell something truly beautiful. At the very least you will be doing your customers a huge favor, in both rights. Selling items in such a way saves those who need to sell but do not have the customers and allowing someone with less financial stability to purchase the perfect piece.
