How Gaming Could Impact Glioblastoma Research

By Rob Sutter

When it comes to any kind of cause, glioblastoma research included, sometimes interest is generated in a multitude of ways. Some organizations may hold events which call for physical activity while others will simply request donations from people. However, in order to maximize the assistance from people for this noble cause, I believe that other forms of media can be utilized. Gaming has a certain niche that it appeals to and I believe that the crowd would be eager to help on the matter.

It appears as though research is being done even today on the matter. The Courier-Mail website reported on a protein type that was inherent in these tumors and it was given the title "EphA3." Now that researchers know about this protein, it seems like treatments are going to be looked at, considering a certain antibody made to target it. It seems like while research may take several small steps, they will count for a great amount of success in the future.

These steps seem to lead to great deals of research but money has to be raised to make it occur. Voices Against Brain Cancer is one company that has done fine work and funds have to be raised in order to assist in the goal coming about. Glioblastoma research has seen a good amount of attention thanks to events, many of which VABC headed like the Join the Voices Run/Walk. Physical activities are, in my opinion, some of the finest in order to bring people together for a cause but there are forms of media that have different fans.

It's not like big companies that people know of haven't been able to help causes in the past. World Wrestling Entertainment, for instance, partnered with Susan G. Komen in order to raise awareness for breast cancer. Imagine if a big video game company like Nintendo worked with an organization in order to assist awareness for brain cancer. Families and gamers alike are attracted to the Nintendo brand and would undoubtedly be exposed to the efforts of the organization in order to help cancer.

Glioblastoma research is one of those acts that people should grant more attention to because it's very important. People have to be made aware of how much of an impact their efforts can have on it, especially through the way of finances. Events can be held in order to bring people together and simply asking people for donations can bring about results just as much. Gaming can fit a similar mindset, whether it's through requests or perhaps even events where people can play and raise money as well.
