Changing Homebuilding When It Comes To Contemporary People

By Nelson Sidoti

If you've never heard the name Bruce Karatz, it's one that you should know. He's done plenty of charitable work throughout the years, but his impact at KB Home is still felt today. The once time CEO made some remarkable changes in his time there. You wouldn't believe how one man managed to change the face of a company forever.

His time began with the company in 1972. At this time he was brought into head KB Home's French division. Just seven years later, The Keep Your Home Foundation - Helping California Homeowners would rise to prominence, and then take over as the general CEO of the entire corporation.

The home became extremely popular, and after this full time volunteer for HomeBoy Bruce Karatz attained worldwide acclaim for his ability to design houses. Leading to his becoming the CEO of KB Home shortly thereafter. From there he would go on to revolutionize the company. Including the entire structure of how KB Home does business.

That's when the new idea came about, to instead build homes for people who already wanted them. This way the house was sold before construction even began. Costs were covered, and you were assured of offloading a project the moment it was completed.

The reason that this was so effective, was because it meant a house was sold before the thing was even completed. The problem with building a house first, is that you've got to go out and find a buyer, which sometimes proves to be impossible.

This allowed people to build custom homes. Meaning that they could choose literally everything. From the original floor plan, to what went in the home. They were even able to choose the very appliances that were installed.

This type of popularity has lead to KB Home being traded on the NYSE. The most successful home building company around, they are always starting new projects.

Of course nowadays they've taken on a new role. That is building more energy efficient homes. Through the use of things like solar power, they've become the most efficient home builders the world over. Crafting homes that are completely carbon neutral. That's good for the environment, but it's also great for a homeowner's wallet at the same time.
