Different Options For Raccoon Removal

By Jocelyn Davidson

North American Raccoons has been one of the really invasive species in parts of Central and North America. They are painfully omnivorous and will eat anything that is left edible enough in your yard. They cause most of the mess that greets you early in the morning since they are nocturnal animals.

Originally, Raccoons were cultured and hunted for their fur, but due to their fast adaptability in their environment, they have gone out of hand with their population and caused an unbalance to the natural habitat of other species. One of the areas they have been bothering is in Rolling Hills, California. In raccoon removal Rolling Hills proved to be a challenge for the community.

There are offers from some pest control agencies in using sound waves to irritate the hearing of the animals, preventing them from going further. It is a variation of an alarm system with infrared detector to set off the sound waves with frequencies 14 up until 25 megahertz. But this is just a not so practical way of doing it. You still have quite a few options.

Cleaning food bits in your yard would be a great option. Not giving them a reason to lounge anywhere in your yard and removing even bits of pet food would be entirely effective. This is what you need to make sure of.

Securing your food wastes inside your trash can would be one way to prevent them from accessing it. Placing a heavy rock or brick on the lid could work as well. Bagging the waste twice would prevent it from letting the smell of food going out, and even if they do get to smell it, they still cannot open it.

Keeping all doors, including pet doors, and windows properly locked would prevent them from getting in, naturally. Regardless of their attempts, it would soon discourage them. Trimming branches that go near your attic also prevents them from living there. If they have already been living there, you are in for a great surprise.

Late January to the middle of March is their mating season, although this might not hold true for other regions like in Manitoba where it is from March towards June. Once you find out that they already have babies born in your attic, it is best to contact a wildlife expert or animal control to get rid of them. They can be highly dangerous from protecting their young and their nest. Keep yourself safe.

Repellants would be another option. A concoction of Jalape's, cayenne powder, and onion boiled in water, then strained into a bottle spray. Another mix would be hot sauce, the hottest one you can get, and detergent powder mixed with one gallon water. Spray these at the border of your house, plants, or fences. The smell would be too strong for them to go near.

One other option is to set up traps. Although this might be effective but you have to make sure of the legality of animal and wildlife captivity in your state or area. Animal control or wildlife experts are readily available locally if you need further assistance. You can reach them if none of the basic steps worked for you.
