Treatment For Navicular Horses Disease

By Kathleen Collins

For all the horse owner, have a healthy animal is the most important thing. If your one was diagnosed with navicular horses disease, the first thing that you need to be aware of is that it is not terminal. As with runners who have trouble with their feet, it doesn t mean they cannot run again, it means they need to take care of their feet, so they can run again. The same applies here.

If you first start to notice that there is a problem, you should take it to the nearest vet. They will be able to have x-rays done as well as do physical exams that will help them to get to the problem. The main sign that you need to look out for is whether there is lameness on any of the legs, typically the front and whether they are struggling to walk properly or may even stumble.

Once they confirm the diagnoses, you will now need to get in touch with markers of hoof shoes and get specific types made. What happens is the stallion will avoid landing on his heel and will put pressure on his toe instead, which can result in further damage. This is why you have special shoes made so it can walk and land properly. It is also made much tighter so there are no loose ends to cause the hoof to lift up from the shoe.

To make sure that the mare is able to land properly, put it on for them and have them walk so you can check for yourself. The best would be to take a correct size of the hoof and share this with the maker. Some people choose to provide the breed of the mare and they assume it s a one size fit all when that isn t the case.

After you confirm the shoe and have the right size, you can now start with the next step of the treatment process. It is important to keep the steed going and not standing on his legs until it gets better, also it won t be able to recover without exercise. Be sure of what exercises you are doing so that you are not causing harm. The idea is that they don t use much of their front legs.

If you are not sure on what you can and cannot do, it will be best to rather hire a professional. These people are skilled with working with steeds who have this condition and can easily guide you to do the right thing. The best would be to hire them to do the exercises for you until you have enough confidence to take it over completely. Remember, the steed will also sense that you are not confident, and this could affect the recovery process.

Apart from your trainer, you need to also keep other aliases on hand such as a vet that has experience with treating steeds of this nature, as well as a specialist. You may not know the extent of the condition and there could be a time where you may need to get help or seek advice. It is best to speak to people who know what they are doing.

Such ailments are common and can happen at any time which is why you need to make sure that you have the right teams in place, and that you understand what it means and how to cure it.
