What You Need To Know About Driveway Sealcoating

By David Harris

For those homeowners who have a driveway it is paramount to make sure that it is as attractive as possible. One of the ways of doing this is driveway sealcoating which mostly done during the fall as this is the season that offers conducive environmental conditions for the process. This also means that the contractors are at their busiest season thus it may also be a challenge to acquire contractors. The article will explain other pointers you need to know about the process.

The coat needs to completely dry before it is used. To promote this, you can have the contractors start the coating process as early as possible by daylight or even before for more effective results. This will enable the contractors to complete the job by afternoon hours when the coat is expected to dry off. This will also allow the task to be completed in time.

Shaded areas are unlikely to dry off in time due to the indirect sunlight. If you intend to coat shaded areas, ensure that the afternoon temperatures will reach over 50 degrees to ensure that the coat receives enough heat to help it dry. Coated areas in the shade often require 2 or more hours of exposing it to the sun for the area to dry completely.

To promote faster drying of the coat, a latex additive is used to ensure that the coat dries faster and in time. Warm temperatures also promote drying of the coat when using the laxative. However, cold, extreme temperatures especially at night will slow down the efficiency of the additive. To use this additive, you thus need to confirm that the conditions are suitable for using it.

Traffic may interfere with the task. Due to this reason, it is thus important that the contractors first analyze the traffic in the area and come up with a strategy to ensure that it will not interfere with their job. For roads that experience heavy traffic, you also need to ensure that the task is completed as soon as possible and dries in time to reduce the effects the project has on traffic flow.

Other than the temperatures of the day, you also need to consider the humidity. Higher humidity will result in less air available for use in evaporation. You thus need to ensure that humidity is suitable for the task. You should also avoid carrying out the process during cloudy days unless the temperatures are above 50 degrees and are expected to rise to up to 60 degrees during the day.

At times carrying out the process at night may be the most convenient time. In such instances, you first need to assess the night temperatures to ensure that they will allow the coat to dry completely in time. Suitable temperatures for night coating should be at around 65 degrees. To further ensure that the coat is completely dry, the contractor in Philadelphia, PA may restrict usage of the road till 9 or 10pm to ensure it is completely dry.

By coating your parking lot, driveway, and pavement, you will end up saving time and money that would have been used in maintaining it to ensure it is in proper condition. It also helps lengthen the life of the path. However, to achieve these advantages, you need to ensure that the coating process is done appropriately.
