Compared to wood, this material is durable by far. Unlike wood or vinyl, it does not warp nor buckle. It is corrosion resistant and does not get affected by mildew or mold the way wood does. This high durability makes it be placed in the category of masonry products. With this class, it can save the homeowner from paying high insurance premiums. It does not get damaged by bumps or impacts like those caused by hailstorm the way vinyl gets damaged. In addition to this durability, the material is low maintenance hence cheaper in the long term relatively.

It can be painted to any color as it is manufactured to accept paint. One can also buy the ones with color plus technology that have been subjected to several layers of paint hence long lasting. The paint is backed giving this material a high resistance to weather effects that damage paint. The usual expansion and contraction that wood undergoes due to weather and temperature changes does not affect this material at all. This ensures the paint stays on for longer as it is not disturbed.

Wood has this high risk of being vulnerable to termites and fire. Hardieplank siding are safe from these two hence the class 1(A) rating given to it.
