Important Steps For Carpet Care Colorado

By Kimberly Thompson

Most property owners find it challenging to keep their carpets in excellent condition. Nonetheless, if they follow some guidelines for effective carpet care Colorado residents will keep their carpeting in good condition for many years. The lifespan of the carpets also increases when they are taken care of well.

One of the important things to do when it comes to caring for carpets is regular vacuuming. Carpet wear is usually caused by dirt and oily soil. You should vacuum carpets thoroughly, especially in high traffic areas. This will help to improve the appearance of your carpets and prolong their life. It is advisable to vacuum your carpeted floor at least once a week.

You may start by vacuuming your carpeting in the opposite direction of the pile to reduce matting. This process will also unsettle and remove dirt and grit. You should finish by vacuuming the carpeting along the pile direction to attain uniformity. Make sure that you always use a high rated vacuum cleaner. You also have to change or empty the bags that collect dust frequently and replace the filters based on the advice of the manufacturer.

The other aspect of carpet care is eliminating stains promptly. The longer a spill remains on carpets, the harder it is to eliminate the stain. When food spills on a carpet, homeowners should remove the solid material in a gentle way using a spoon or dull knife. They should then add water on the area and blot it using a little amount of detergent if necessary. They should then use a high suction function and vacuum the area thoroughly adding more water to the spot as they continue until the stain is completely removed.

If using spot removing solvents, you only have to apply small drops of the solvent on a white piece of cloth for blotting the carpets. Before using spot removing solvents, it is advisable to first do a spot test on a part of the carpet that is not conspicuous. Gentle products should first be used when you want to treat a stain on your carpets. Severe chemicals should only be used if required because they can cause the breaking down of carpet fibers.

Having your carpeted floor steam cleaned is also important. Ideally, you should hire a professional to steam clean your carpeting every 12 to 18 months depending on usage. Steam cleaning should be performed by professional carpet cleaners who are licensed and experienced.

You can also maintain your carpeting in a good state by placing doormats on doorways leading to the exterior of your premises. You may also place rugs in areas that have high traffic to keep the carpets safe. Using curtains and blinds is also essential because they prevent carpets from being exposed to direct sunlight for a long time.

At times, carpets get snags and sprouts. You can use scissors to clip them. Avoid pulling them because this can damage the carpets. If your carpet gets damaged by water, you should call a professional to dry it out. You can also ensure that your carpeted floor remains in good condition by requesting the people entering your home to remove their shoes and reorganizing the positions of furniture occasionally to reduce wear and tear.
