How To Prepare Before Your Movers Arlington VA Service Providers Come To Your Home

By Marie Hall

Moving houses is quite a big task. That is why it is important that you be well organized, to ensure that everything goes well. There are various things that you can do before movers Arlington VA come to your place to help you be well prepared. This will save you lots of time and hassle. Here are some of those things.

One of the most important things that you can do is to rid yourself of anything that is not important to you. Give it away or throw it away. No need to carry clutter to your new house. Decluttering stuff will leave you with plenty of room to pack the stuff that means a lot to you. Also, it will save you money, since you will need a smaller truck for your stuff.

You need to plan on what the professionals can move and what they can't move. For anything that they won't handle, consider making separate arrangements for that. For example, you can hire another specialty company to move the stuff for you or you can transport them in your own private car, if you have one. Some of the things moving companies would be reluctant to move include any toxic substances. Some companies also won't move pets.

Have a detailed inventory of everything that you are planning to move. This way, in case anything gets lost, you will know what it is. The inventory will also be used for insurance, when you are getting your items valued. Make sure that you get adequate insurance to cover the cost of all your items. This way, in case anything happens to your stuff, you will at least get compensated for it.

Take time to clean out all your appliances. This includes both big and small appliances, such as refrigerators, ovens and even hot water kettle. If you have a lawn mower, make sure to drain out all the fluid in it. Also, clear out cupboards and drawers.

Pack tiny items together. You can so easily misplace them during the move and never find them again. Put them together in a small container or in a plastic bag or wherever that is convenient for you. Do this on your own rather than delegating.

It can get quite frustrating for you to try and find a specific item after you have boxed everything up. To prevent this, label all the packaged boxes. Put the labels at the top and on all sides of the boxes. Alternatively, you can color code all your boxes, so that you know what goes where.

Plan to be present on the day of the move. Oversee all the operations, so that everything goes smoothly. If you cannot be there, live someone responsible in charge. Make sure that they are there on time, so that the professionals don't waste a lot of time to get started. You might want to live your kids and any pets you want somewhere else, so that they do not get in the way.
