By Ronald Cooper

Christianity came into being many centuries ago. After the Disciples of Christ, missionaries took over the process and tried to spread the gospel to as many regions as possible. The process is still ongoing, but this time it is the duty of pastors and religious elders to draw more people to embrace the faith. The church has proved to be beneficial to society in many ways. These benefits start from individual profits to the community as a whole. These organizations have faced critics from many people and groups holding different faiths. Nevertheless, they have stood firm with the gospel and the apostolic functions. The following are the significance of a church in Columbia MD

Fellowship. Church goers get a chance to be together for the same purpose. This togetherness promotes personal relationships and team spirit. After a busy week, someone may need a break and a chance to meet with friends and congregation members. It enhances the human bond that is vital in any rapport. This also gives an individual an opportunity of consulting God.

The general society benefits from the church humanitarian activities. At times they carry out activities depending on the necessity of the same. For example, they may plan to plant trees in a certain area as a way of conserving the environment. The activities may also be extended to helping individuals like in fundraisers and helping in educating needy learners.

The church has helped to lower crime in the society. This is through behavior rectification. They emphasize on people living righteous lives. They are always advised to repent when they have sinned and also ask for forgiveness when they have wronged someone. The religious teaching also gives warnings and emphasize on good morals. This has transformed the people in terms of their daily conduct.

Nurturing leaders and development of skills. Leadership skills start by handling small groups of people. In a church, youths are given chances to lead others in committees and related religious matters. This equips them with leadership skills that are necessary for bigger responsibilities. This could also be through pastoral and minister activities.

Members of different ethnic groups meet during the activities. It promotes integration. National integration is important in any social setting. It enables the citizens to be able to appreciate others and respect other cultures across the region. When every group is represented the benefits are shared equally among them. More so it promotes unity among the residents of a region.

People get to know more about God through the apostolic. They initiate programs that deliver the gospel to citizens. Some media channels offer a chance to pastors to conduct the service live on air. This facilitates to reach to those watching from home at their comfort. Therefore in a great way it has helped people know God more compared to ancient times.

Solve disputes. Pastors, evangelist, and elders are consulted under various circumstances to help solve disputes. These wrangles may be family based, political or between two parties with different stands. These elders are trusted to always stand for the truth, and that is why they are widely used as mediators in a time of a crisis.
