The breed of Criollo cattle is inclusive of Corriente cattle. Corriente cattle descended from Spanish animals which were introduced in America many centuries back. This breed was first introduced into the Americas back in early 1493 according to history. In light of its long American history, this breed is widely adopted in Americas. In fact, it is found in every state under the United States of America. This is worth knowing about corriente cattle for sale.

These animals have a small physical appearance with the cow weighing about 450 kilograms. They have a slim body with an athletic stance. These animals have their horns growing in an upward direction and most farmers call them easy keepers since unlike other breeds they need minimal human supervision. They have the ability to calve on their own without the help of humans and there are rare cases of dead calves during calving.

These animals eat much less when compared to other breeds which are kept for beef or milk. They also require less water in a day to do just well. They can live fin on sparse open range. They have also been branded with the name accomplished escape artists because of their ability to escape from confinements. They can easily leap over standard barbed wire fences. They can also squeeze themselves through fairly small openings.

Further development of these animals happened in the US despite their originating from Europe. Spanish settlers in the state of Florida are the ones who introduced this breed into the United States. As such, their concentration is much higher in this state than others. They are also referred to by other names in Mexico. This breed closely resembles Florida Cracker cattle and Pineywoods among other breeds.

There are several reasons as to why farmers keep these animals. They are first kept for milk, they are then reared for their meat. They can also be kept as draught animals. They are rarely kept for their meat since when compared to other beef breeds they have very little fat. Another important reason they are kept is for sports, these animals are usually used in bulldogging, team roping and other rodeo events.

The use in animal sports has been discouraged and rebuked by many animals rights organizations around the world. These organizations have issued strong statements against the practice. In response, all forms of the sport have been dropped.

In recent years, the population of these animals has been declining. Today, their numbers are low and in response efforts to preserve then have been initiated. Lots of factors could by causing this decline but neglect appears to be the most realistic one. In consideration of their small sizes, farmers could be abandoning them in favor of more profitable breeds.

The appearance of these animals is mostly a black coat. There are also those that have a brown coat or a coat that has a black and brown combination. The front quarters and hind quarters of these animals are well balanced therefore giving them a perfect athletic posture. They have a dense coat with a heavy coat.
