What You Should Know About Vintage VW Kubelwagen Parts

By Edward Howard

Whatever is said about them belonging to a different and earlier era and no longer have parts made for them, these are VWs out there that still run. The secret is an open one among Volkswagen enthusiasts who have made the passion for their car brand work in amazing ways. In technological terms, the German cars of this era were among the most advanced and efficient in the world.

Retro, as a whole, is about classic or vintage cars, but for some this extends to military vehicles. VW Kubelwagen parts is one branch of this particular collecting niche, and they can help you recreate an old broken down unit perfectly. Online, there are many helpful sites that can get you to that place where all enthusiasts want to be.

Type 82, in the year 1943 is the classic collectible Kubelwagen, a Wehrmacht workhorse whose basic design is still excellent. The engineers during this time at Volkswagen studied the specs well, designing a multipurpose car that would be used for many driving conditions. By simply looking at one unit, you can immediately tell that this was the HUMVEE of its day.

Car enthusiasts know how German engineering had created excellent standards for ergonomics, economy and accessories in the car. A lot of people all around the globe value their classic German vehicles for their no nonsense engineering and efficiency. Vintage vehicles of this kind have good market value, but a close to complete unit is a rare find.

Most units that are restored for collectors will have some of the biggest parts left over from the original vehicle. These can be the chassis, the axles, gearboxes and the original 24.5 horsepower engine block. The things found in old barns will be missing doors, windows, front lamps, mirrors or tires.

Volkswagen, though, knows how to take care of the provenance of all its older models, and can probably provide manuals, moulds and the precise products for vintage vehicles. Therefore, it would not be farfetched for good restorers to make their parts directly from original specs licensed out by the original manufacturer. They can make all the needed parts for the remake.

It will be great for Kubelwagen enthusiasts who are contracting for a remodel. The original dashboard can be replicated as if it were the 40s, from odometers to pod switches for the split dash. The restorers can lathe, machine and mould all the necessary parts so there is no difference between the restored and original.

Bingeing for these collectors has still to run its course. The HUMVEE never became available for the civilian collector because civilian models were not the same. The thing that collectors want are original units that look no different from those driven on the 40s, and the VW model is now part of a niche that counts models like the American made jeep type.

The car in question is something that many like to have, but not all can be accommodated. And this makes collecting this unit that much more valuable. However, there might be manufacturers that can build a facsimile from the ground up.
