By Jerry Clark

The northeastern part of the US plays host to one of the most intense and highly recognized collegiate leagues. It is a unique conference that generates the best and most inspiring athletes with great national media and corporate exposure. It has also followed the destinies of black colleges and universities since 1912, making it the oldest African American league in the country.

CIAA is the acronym for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, which has members in four states and currently 12 member schools in NCAA Division II. CIAA 2017 has some excitingly awaited annual events in college sports as well as socials, celebrations and shows for registered or paying audiences. Recently, the organization has signed up with startup network Bounce TV for coverage of sports events and championships.

The conference has a proud and amazing tradition that is tied to the freedom of African Americans to participate in higher education as well as sports. It left is old Hampton Virginia home and relocated Charlotte, NC in 2015 and has new major corporate support. North Carolina is where 8 of league campuses are, and they officially participate in eight sports for men and an equal eight sports for women.

Its members are a storied bunch that have valiantly fought the good fight for students as well as the general community of liberally educated men and women. These include Bowie State, Chowan U, Elizabeth City S. U., and Fayetteville State. Some more members are Johnson C. Smith U, Lincoln University and Livingstone College.

Winston Salem State, Shaw University, Virginia State University, Virginia Union University, and Saint Augustine University complete the club. What with its unique history, the conference has gone through the uptimes and downtimes, but has always come out as a conference to watch out for, playing an NCAA division that is perhaps the most competitive. 2017, to reiterate, will be something of a banner year for the conference.

A lot of people recognize the league as one of the crown jewels of collegiate games, bringing with it outstanding value. Ever since it transferred to North Carolina, it has given birth to something akin to a city renaissance, being the host of many great athletes in the professional and amateur leagues. Plus, a lot of people go to its events in the hopes of connecting with the many celebrities that appear during the after event celebrations.

For exceptional fan experience, learn about conference schedules this coming 2017. Many events are still to be determined, but for sure a lot of professional and college basketball games will be featured. Of course, Charlotte will host the tourney from February 20th to 25th.

Tens of thousands of visitors are expected this year. There was a dramatic rise in the number of guests and fans last year and the coming year will probably register a new record. It has mostly been the work of conference organizers, member schools and players who have worked hard for the recognition as well as a truly memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone in attendance.

Some official venues are the Bojangles Coliseum and the Spectrum Center. The reason is that that there are so many are being planned for. Of course, the official arena for major functions will be the Charlotte Convention Center, located at 501 College Street in the city of Charlotte.
