By Susan Thomas

Most of the old art pieces and carvings are quite of shape. This is because of the long use or just deterioration from exposure to the environmental factors that may cause adverse effects. But there is a way to arrest such situations and make sure the pieces maintain their original look or prevent further damage. There are of many types and below are some of the natures of antique furniture restoration MA.

The furniture can be restored by means of conservation. This is done by means of cleaning the antique using specific chemicals and processes that removal dirt or any stains. It can also be used on other collectibles such as art or curving and furniture parts that are made of wood. They are cleaned and varnish or paint is applied to keep the look if not protect it.

The antique can be also being restored by means of prevention. Prevention is the process by which it slows or stopping deterioration of the furniture piece. It is specifically not a restoration process but is process to help keep the pieces almost intact or stop it. It can be by applying varnish, use of chemicals to avoid further damage by oxidation or even keeping in specific environment.

Repairs can be another form of reinstatement. This is applied to those pieces that are broken or worn out. This is the physical reinforcement or replacement to retain the original look. Example is a broken leg on furniture. It calls for a replacing and weak parts call for reinforcement to keep the piece stable and still usable. It may reduce the value of a piece but it helps maintain the aesthetic value.

There is also finish restoration where the piece is brought back to life the existing finish. It may be done by application of varnish or paint to ensure that the piece keeps it look. This applied varnish helps keep the original finish intact. It protects the inner original finish by limiting the exposure to the environmental factors and if any degradation the varnish, it does not reach the old finish. It helps maintain the piece by up to ninety five percent.

Refinishing is another form of reinstatement that occurs when restoring an old thing over several times. It involves removal of any subsequent finishes for the piece surface and painting it a fresh. Just like the finish restoration, it stops the antique from further damage.

Another form of reinstatement is stripping. This is a process that involves dismantling or complete breaking and rebuilding is redone. These processes include the dipping the pieces in chemical to remove the previous or original finish, removing glue, breaking of the joint. They are then redone by painting and are finished up by the rebuilding. This however should be the last resort since they destroy most of the old parts are lost.

Therefore, reinstatement is a very important practice when it comes to preserving the old antiques. It makes sure they remain in the best form possible to last them longer and function. It is also important in this kind of business and more so, it also helps preserve history in the museums.
