The Basics Of Fencing Lancaster Pa

By Kimberly Olson

One of the most interesting and classiest of all combat sports is none other than fencing. Fencing lancaster pa is known to be the sport of a gentleman and is known to be the primary duel medium for knights and honorable men during the medieval era in Europe. Today, it is a very well loved sport by many people in a lot of countries including America and the United Kingdom.

Now if one is taking up this art, then the very first thing that he will learn would be the basic stance. This is known as the on guard stance wherein one will be putting his weight evenly on his both legs with the right leg in front. In this position, one will be able to maneuver his sword in any way that he would want in order to disarm his opponent.

When one has already gotten the stance, then the next thing that he has to know about would be the footwork techniques. The first technique is known as the advance which is the primary footwork that one can use for attacking. To do this attack, one just has to step forward with his leading leg and then let the back leg follow to create another on guard stance.

The second footwork technique that one must learn would be the retreat. Now the retreat is actually the exact opposite of the advance wherein one will move his hind leg before his front leg to go backwards. This is often used as a defense technique instead of an offensive one.

Now that one knows the basic footwork, then the next thing that one will be learning would be the types of attacks. The first kind of attack that one will learn would be the basic thrust which is actually a long forward stab. This is done in order to stab the opponent deep into the chest and is one of the best ways to score points.

The second attack that one will learn is called the disengagement and is actually more of a counter move. In order to do this, one must flick his wrist and parry the sword of the opponent in order to push the sword away. Once the opponent has his guard down, then one can move in with a thrust to stab the heart.

Now another very useful technique that one can learn to surprise his opponents is a glide. In order to do this, one would have to make his blade face upward slightly and then he has to make small attacks that do not fully extend his arm. This can be used to slap the sword of his opponent also so that his opponent will not be able to attack properly.

So for those who are interested in this sport, then here is a good overview that will enable one to get an idea of what this sport is. Contrary to how it looks, this sport is actually quite fierce and intense. If one would want to take this up, then the best schools can be found in places near lancaster or Akron, PA.
