Home Remedies For Dental Stains

By Harry Izzo

Do you cover your mouth to hide your smile even after hearing a hilarious joke? Then you might want to find a remedy for your stained teeth. If you go to a dentist he can have them removed in a few short minutes. A dentist is fully equipped with the latest cleansing gels to take care of your problems. If you go the home remedy route then be prepared for the long-haul.

Stains on your teeth are a sign that you either smoke a lot or you are not cleaning your teeth as well as you should. Or it's a combination of the two. If you brush your teeth at a minimum of twice a day you still can have smoking stains. Look at smoking as something you should treat, exactly like when you've had a meal. Soon after you put out your cigarette you showed brush your teeth. If this is not possible for you, then at least rinse them out with some water.

Fruits, especially citrus fruits, have many cleansing properties. They stimulate the mouth to produce saliva and this holds stains at bay and keeps your teeth looking white. Hopefully you like to eat oranges and lemons. Keep plenty on hand for this purpose. Citrus fruit is loaded with vitamins C and this helps ward off gingivitis.

Strawberries and apples also are invaluable. Biting down into an apple keeps the surface of your teeth looking white. Strawberries also can be helpful if you munch them into paste and brush your teeth with them. Afterwards be sure to use real toothpaste to finish the job.

Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda together make a very strong homemade paste to brush your teeth with. Baking soda is basically tiny abrasive grains that are a good option to the toothpaste we use every day. These little grains scrub the surface enamel of your teeth and stop their staining. Make sure that you do not brush too vigorously otherwise you will harm this surface enamel.

Dairy products are loaded with nutrients. They are a good source of calcium which helps strengthen bones. Teeth are bones and are strengthened internally by what we eat. Milk and other products such as cheese help rid your mouth of smoke stains.

These home remedies are not quick fixes unfortunately. They help remove stains over time especially for smokers. The best option is to quit smoking altogether. This will improve your smile and keep you living longer too.
