Tips For Buying A Cargo Elevator

By Cynthia Bennett

Cargo or freight elevators are the kind of elevators that are installed in buildings and other structures to help with the movement of luggage and other goods. The design and size of the product is meant for moving goods as opposed to passengers. As such, most buildings in which they are installed will have notices to the public warning them against using the goods lift.

Freight elevators are usually much bigger and stronger than their traditional passenger lift counterparts. Before buying a cargo elevator, some of the main factors to consider are the maximum weight and the capacity of the product. Maximum weight is often specified for safety reasons and it must never be exceeded. The value of the heaviest weight the product can support can be found on the doors or other surfaces of the commodity.

Safety is the most important aspect to consider when buying a goods lift. The lift acquired should be able to provide safety to goods and passengers being moved. One can check the level of safety in the product by inspecting the kind of safety features it incorporates. One of the most important safety feature to check for is the dual mast design. Products constructed around this design are safer. One should ask the vendor about the safety provided by the elevator and make them guarantee before acquiring it.

The maximum weight the product can support is a very important factor to consider. Residential elevators need to be able to support more weight than the heaviest item in the residence. The speed of movement of the loaded lift is also worth considering. It is recommended that the lift move at 12 feet per minute when it is loaded.

These elevators are likely to come in contact with weather elements. As such, it is important to ensure that the product purchased can resist the effects of weather elements. The materials used for construction should be steel or aluminum because they do not rust or corrode. To avoid the risk of disconnection, the cables installed into the system should be double winders and made of strong materials that can resist rusting and corrosion by weather elements.

Products vary in how much they cost. As such, one should ensure that they obtain several quotes before they settle down on one. The same product may cost differently in various stores and by obtaining quotes, one is able to make comparisons. Another factor that is cost-related that should be considered is the mode of payment. Most vendors take down payments and monthly installments on their products.

Many people often purchase elevators and install them, only to realize later that they do not function as expected. This is often a major setback to those who do not pay attention. Obtaining a warranty is the best way to avoid such setbacks. Warranties on structural parts are required to last a minimum of five years.

Ignorant clients are often exploited by some companies through the warranties. As such, every aspect of the warranty agreement should be considered with care. One can also ensure that they are fully protected by obtaining all contracts from the vendor in written form. When the agreements are in written form, the client is sure that the vendor will keep their word.
