Professional Dog Grooming At Home Will Save You Cash

By Christopher Campbell

Those who own dogs prefer leaving the haircut job to the professionals. This is an activity that requires some knowledge and experience especially with dogs that have continuous growth of hair. However, the good news is that you can become skilled in trimming the hair of your dog. Dog grooming will get better with time. All you need is ensuring that you bear the following issues in mind.

The first thing that you should have is the right equipment for the job. There is one called clippers which are used to cut the hair. There are different types and sizes, and there are those that are cheap while others are expensive. Each time before you use them, you should make sure that they are properly sharpened so that they can easily and evenly cut the hair. This also prevents the experience being painful.

During trimming, the trimmer is advised to have someone who can hold down the dog to ensure it does not move unnecessarily. If there is no one available to hold it, other equipment may also be used to hold the dog in position. The dog should also be placed on top of raised furniture example a table to avoid having backaches. While setting up also place a stable mat on the table.

For dogs that have hair that grows continuously, grooming should be done after every eight weeks. Brushing the dogs fur will reduce the number of times you have to groom it as the brushing removes tangles in the hair and also reduces their development. Regular clipping is though necessary for dogs that have tangles forming easily on its hair.

It is important bearing in mind that long coats will offer insulation against cold or heat. If the dog experiences too much heat, you can clip the belly to help it in cooling down while at the same time protecting it from the scorching sun.

The equipment that you are using should be clean too. This is so that even if you injure the dog by mistake, it will not get any infection. You should also have a disinfectant spray that you will use after shaving to do away with any infections that may come after that. You should use this chemical to disinfect the clippers before use too.

The location for trimming the dog should also be planned. The area should be in a tranquil location that is free from noise and other interruptions. The spot should also be easy to clean off the hairs that will be trimmed. If the dog is dirty, first wash it, let the hair dry then brush it while removing all the tangles. It is important to note that while trimming ensure you trim towards the direction in which the hair is growing towards.

This is one of the best ways to bond with your pet. You will enjoy the process and so will your dog. If you are not sure how to go about it, you can ask someone to train you, and you will be good at it within no time.
