The Demand Of Neuropsychology NYC

By Nancy Gardner

There are many different types of therapists for various purposes. Neuropsychology NYC helps patients see whether they have a problem with the brain in way or another. This often happens when they have had an accident and it involves brain trauma. A neuropsychologist is able to see whether the patient has been affected or not.

Often this is because of a big fall or an accident. Part of the brain could be affected and this causes things like memory loss or instability with the emotions. It depends what part of the brain was affected and the severity of it. Immediately after the accident, the patient will find that they will be a lot worse off, but it will take time to recover.

There are tests that one has to go through in order to determine whether the brain has been damaged in one way or another. In saying this, one will find that there are improvements that can be made. This happens over time. For example, if someone has had a fall and suffers with serious amnesia, it could take up to a year to see some sort of improvement.

A neuropsychologist may work in their own private practice, but it is also common for them to work with a neurologist. A neurologist will need a team of people when he or she is operating and this type of psychologist will have to keep in contact with the surgeon. There are a variety of written and oral tests that are performed at set periods.

One of these psychologists often works with a neurologist who does brain surgery. They need to work together to make sure that the patient is recovering in the time set out. One will have a team look after someone who is having a brain tumor removed or an epileptic who has part of the brain removed. Someone with epilepsy will still be able to function, but needs to be assessed.

They may have problems with emotions or they may have issues with memory. This all depends on the impact and the position in which they fell. Of course, this does not all relate to falls and accidents. There are illnesses and disorders that also come into play, such as epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease.

If it is memory that they are having a problems with, they may not be able to cope on a day to day basis because they could be forgetting certain tasks at work, for example. However, there is always room for improvement. One could refer a patient to a psychologist so that further progress could be made.

This type of psychologist can also work alongside lawyers who need a team like this in the case where a patient wants to sue someone. They may want to do this after an accident and claim money back after the damage was caused. This is because they won't have the same quality of life and will not be able to earn a living a like they were able to before. A neuropsychologist will be able to put the lawyers in the picture, backed up by their knowledge and experience.
