Information Concerning Long Island Surveillance Systems

By Janine Hughes

Security is a rising concern in the inner city as well as the suburbs of most cities including Long Island, New York. The government and other independent contractors have been making use of various security systems and measures to help fight the increasing levels of insecurity. In areas such as Long Island surveillance systems have been set up all over to capture any wrongful acts. This surveillance collected is then used as evidence against the perpetrators.

These surveillance and security networks are available in different types. They vary in complexity as well as in the way they operate and handle various tasks. These differences serve to supply custom services to different people with different security needs. Say, for example a business owner, he may need a simple security system at home to watch over his kids, and another advanced one to ensure the security of his safe at the office.

The most common type of surveillance system is installation of security closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras. These have the widest range of use known. They are invaluable in business premises, homes, and even on streets and alleys. These are also installed alongside other types of networks as assistive devices.

Many homes do not require highly sophisticated and advanced security type surveillance features. Most only require a video link system at the door. This is installed to enable the home owner view that is at the entrance before opening. Nowadays, these are being installed together with an intercom system so that the guest and owner can speak before being allowed in. Another addition is usually remotely accessible doors and gates, to save the owner the trip all the way.

Access restriction networks have also taken root especially in high level offices and other secure institutions such as government bureaus. Due to the high level of security and surveillance required in such places, they have more than one type of security apparatus and monitoring networks installed. Most of these require identity information so as to determine whether or not to allow the person access into the premises.

The most common system of access is usually either card systems. In these, people with clearance to the building will have with them various forms of keys, cards and patches which are detected by the scanners, when close enough so as to allow access. Another type is biometric scanners. These scan for physical traits such as fingerprints and eyes so as to grant or deny access.

There are many other forms of surveillance systems, some of which are less commonly used by the civilian population. Some of these are but for high level security. Most are however used by secret service and government agencies. These include global positioning and tracking systems (GPS), camera mounted and remote controlled surveillance drones, and other high level networks that track and record computer networks and transactions, telephone conversations.

With such advances in technology in the security field, security needs not be an extreme threat. Even in Long Island, surveillance networks are available that suit your needs and guarantee an extra level of security for your home and business.
