Making Your House Ready For Winter During The Fall Season

By Aaron Marlowe

Autumn is a glorious season - Trees become colorful and brisk air is pleasant and refreshing. The season is also the best time to perform certain cleaning and maintenance projects on your house in order to prepare it for the harsh winter months.

Carpet cleaning is a smart choice to lead with, whether you choose to do the work yourself or hire a company. Window washing is also ideal in Fall, since the cloudier, overcast days are more conducive to streak-free windows.

Fall is also conducive to clean your mattress and bedspreads, which also give you the opportunity to change or add covers to compensate for the impending cold. A systematic cleaning of each room is also a good idea. Be sure to sweep, dust or wash every possible surface, including furnishings and window coverings. You might also take the opportunity to rearrange your living areas and brighten it up with a fresh style. However, as the air gets more dry, the chance of accidental fires increases. To help prevent this threat, be sure to make sure the lint-trapping systems on your dryer is working properly, and that there are no residual food particles or oils around the stove or oven.

Yet another Autumn project that should take place is to have your furnace inspected to ensure it's ready for the cold, and to have its filter changed. Other areas that should be cleaned include the air ducts and the area behind the fridge. Keeping these areas clean will make for a healthier home.

As for the outside of the house, ensure that the gutters and drain pipes are free of blockage, air conditioning systems are properly protected from harsh weather, and any gardening and landscaping tools are clean and put away. Don't miss out on what Autumn offers in the way of convenient home-maintenance!
