Would You Like A Secure Home?

By Mark Mahaffey

If you keep up with the news, you are well aware of how common home burglaries are. Whether from casually coming in through an unlocked door or from breaking in through a window, robbers are very savvy when it comes to getting inside the homes of their victims.

The secret to avoiding a break-in is to decide to take some steps to make your home a secure home. Securing your home is not difficult, but it does require you to think through some issues and do whatever it takes to reduce the chances that you will be a victim of a break-in.

For example, you can make your doors stronger. Some people think that the locks on the doors that come with their homes are good enough to keep out robbers. But those locks are not very strong. You would be better off buying and installing some quality dead bolts that will make it harder for a robber to get in. Just reinforce the frames around your doors as well, so they can withstand force.

Your neighbors will also help you have a secure home, if you take the time to make friends with them. As your neighbors get to know you, they will become familiar with what kind of car you drive, what times of the day you are at home and what the normal activity at your house looks like. When something looks wrong at your home, they can call the police.

Another way to increase the security of your house is with motion detectors. Motion detectors can detect when something moves in the vicinity surrounding it. If you connect this to your home alarm system, it can be set to turn on the siren anytime someone approaches your house. This is a great way to scare off criminals!

You can also create a secure home by keeping the landscaping around your house trimmed and well maintained. Crooks like to have plenty of hiding places while they do their dirty work. If you keep the exterior of your house clean and clear of places for someone to hide, you will be safer.
