Intel looks beyond PCs, eyes new segments

The future is in personal computing, not just personal computers, according to Intel CEO Paul Otellini who said his company wasbetting on new market segments such as netbooks, handhelds and consumer electronics to drive growth with PC sales likely to be “flat or slightly up” this year.

Intel, whose range of microprocessors power almost 80% of computers worldwide, also announced that it

has built working chips that pack 2.9 billion transistors in an area the size of a finger nail.

Delivering his keynote at the Intel Developers’ Forum 2009, Mr Otellini also launched an Intel Atom Developer Programme inviting third party programmers to create new programs for its Atom line of microprocessors. Atom powers net books — bare-bone PCs with small screens for net surfing and word processing — a segment, which Mr Otellini said was holding up the whole computer market now.

“We have the worst recession in 70 years. The netbook filled the gap,” he said, adding that Atom will eventually cover connected devices. “At the highest level, every electronic device is likely to be connected to the Internet at some point in time. And we think the architecture to do this, obviously, is Atom,” he said.

Netbooks outpaced the two other popular devices in the consumer market — Apple’s iPhone and the Nintendos gaming console Wii — in the past three quarters, he added. In-vehicle infotainment systems, which clocked a 17% growth rate in the year when the automotive industry slipped to a recession, are another growth area for Intel.

Mr Otellini said that a company that Intel has been working with over three years, Harman Becker, has secured two major design contracts for Atom-based systems. “Daimler will put it into their S-Class and C-Class series starting in 2012, and BMW is developing a cross-platform, which means it goes across all their models, as an option for 2012 and beyond,” the Intel CEO said.

Intel has also begun factory production of its 32 nanometre chip, and the latest one — the 22nm one — continues to deliver the promise of Moore’s Law: smaller transistors, improved performance and lower cost, said Sean Maloney, Intel’s executive vice-president.

“The rapidly increasing number of transistors and processor instructions we add have made possible the integration of more and more capabilities and features within our processors. This has driven an incredible amount of innovation throughout the industry, with the real winners being the consumers, gamers and businesses,” he said.

AMD touts its graphics physics engine

AMD HAS BEGUN a campaign to step up the adoption of a new physics engine. The company is working with software developer Pixelux Entertainment to sell developers on a combination of the Bullet Physics engine and OpenCL processing.

AMD said that the campaign would seek to grow the use of the platform for applications such as gaming and simulations. The companies hope that, by combining the open-source Bullet engine with the OpenCL GPU standard, developers will have a more powerful and effective way to run physics simulations.

Additionally, AMD hopes to allow the adoption of a physics engine which can be taken advantage of by all graphics cards.

In announcing the initiative, AMD chief graphics technology officer Eric Demers took a swipe at rival Nvidia and its proprietary PhysX engine.

"Proprietary physics solutions divide consumers and independent software vendors, while stifling true innovation. Our competitors even develop code that they themselves admit will not work on hardware other than theirs," he said.

"By working with Pixelux and others to enable open support of physics on OpenCL and DirectX 11 capable devices, we are taking the exact opposite approach."

Former AMD kingpin gives Intel hell

AMD's former CEO Hector Ruiz has released a commentary that picks apart Intel's defense against the European Commission's €1.06bn fine for anticompetitve practices.

Ruiz's scathing rebuke, published by MarketWatch, excoriates Chipzilla's efforts to wriggle out of responsibility for the actions that led to the fine - especially in light of the incriminating evidence recently released by the European Competition Commission.

In his commentary, entitled "Intel and the blame game: Time to take responsibility in chip-industry antitrust case," Ruiz writes: "Intel has apparently embraced the advice dispensed by the playwright Oscar Wilde: 'It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you place the blame.'"

Ruiz's argument takes several tacks, chiding Intel for its charges of Commission bias, scolding the company for suppressing evidence, reproving them for disparaging critics - "a typical monopolist defense" according to Ruiz - and saying that Intel's blaming of AMD for its European sales problems "really does twist reality into a pretzel."

Not that Ruiz is without bias. After assuming the positions of president and COO of AMD in 2000, he became CEO in 2002 and headed the company until he stepped aside in 2008.

And he has called Intel to task before, as evidenced by his statement in 2007 when the EU began its investigation of Intel that "This is not an isolated instance," citing similar investigations in Japan and Korea.

Still, Ruiz holds out an olive branch at the end of Wednesday's dressing-down of his former competitor: "Intel has been a global innovation leader in the past," he concedes. "It can be a global innovation leader in the future - but not until Intel's leadership recognizes a simple truth."

That simple truth, from Ruiz's point of view, is that Intel should take responsibility for its actions, and move on.

"The sooner Intel accepts a level of responsibility befitting a company of its scope, legacy and stature," Ruiz writes, "and takes responsibility for its own errors, the sooner that the full benefits of competition will flow, not just to the industry, and not even just to computer manufacturers, but to computer users the world around."

AMD Unveils Powerful New Graphics Cards

AMD on Wednesday unveiled the ATI Radeon HD 5800 series, graphics cards that boast up to 2.72 teraflops of computer power.
The series will initially debut with two cards: the ATI Radeon HD 5870 and the ATI Radeon HD 5850, both of which include 1 G-byte of graphics double data rate version 5 (GDDR5) memory and support for OpenCL.

This type of computing power has prompted AMD to refer to the 5800 series as the "most powerful processor ever created," though AMD acknowledges that teraflops are "not necessarily an indicator of leading performance in every application."

The ATI Radeon HD 5800 is the first to support Microsoft DirectX 11, the new gaming and compute standard that will ship with Windows 7. It will also support DirectX 9, DirectX 10, DirectX 10.1, and OpenGL titles in single card configurations or multi-card configurations using ATI CrossFireX technology.

"When measured in terms of game performance experienced in some of today's most popular games, the ATI Radeon HD 5800 series is up to twice as fast as the closest competing product in its class," AMD said in a statement.

The 5800 series allows for multi-monitor gaming at up to 12 x full HD resolution. The HD 5870 and HD 5850 will allow up to three displays, and the forthcoming ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity6 graphics card will allow for six.

Intel introduced its new Classmate PC design featuring convertible a display system that allows the user to turn the mini notebook computer into a tablet PC.

The new convertible Classmate PC model running with the low-power consuming Intel Atom processing technology is destined to the learning sector, specifically to primary school students, and brings a touch-sensitive user interface, the 180-degree swivel display and a rotational camera, while included in the Intel Learning Series, a new initiative gathering hardware, software and different services meant to improve the education in the emerging markets.

Microsoft's Project Pink finally bearing fruit in 2010 with two self-branded phones?

The concept of a self-branded Microsoft phone (or two) actually making it to market is more believable than ever. A deterrent frequently cited in years past was Microsoft's vested interest in keeping its Windows Mobile hardware partners happy -- but as even their staunchest supporters (think HTC and LG) have turned to Android to shore up their smartphone lineups, it'd be far less of a backstabbing move on Redmond's part to get into the business next year than it would've been in, say, 2006 or even 2008.

Add in the fact that the Zune HD shares 99 percent of its DNA with what could be a top-notch Windows Mobile-beating smartphone, and... well, it'd actually be a little ridiculous at this point if they didn't move in that direction, wouldn't it?

This discussion takes us back once again to Project Pink, the oft-rumored secret package of hardware, software, and services (or some combination thereof) allegedly being developed deep within Microsoft's skunkworks. Last we'd heard it'd be based on Windows Mobile 7 Chassis 1 with a heavy dose of 2009-spec components capable of chewing through processor-intensive apps and games, and now 9to5Mac says it's received information that Microsoft will be releasing two Pink devices next year, likely at CES.

We've heard for a long time that Pink is one of the fruits (perhaps the only fruit?) of the company's Danger acquisition, and to that end, the Pink devices will apparently be sourced from Sharp -- Danger's primary Hiptop ODM, up to and including the Sidekick LX 2009 -- and will feature "Microsoft+Sharp" co-branding, not unlike Garmin Asus.

The handsets are said to be codenamed "Turtle" and "Pure," both sliders of some sort with Pure possibly destined for Verizon. As you might expect from a product developed with Danger, it'll feature tight app store support with carrier integration, but otherwise, there's nothing else to this latest noise.

Considering Danger's utter lack of experience with Windows Mobile, that could account for the amount of time it's taking for Microsoft to show its Pink cards -- assuming it's all WinMo- or WinCE-based to begin with. That would also imply that the company would have to start revealing details on its primary next-gen mobile platform in January, which gives 6.5 extraordinarily little breathing room at the top of the food chain.

Of course, 9to5Mac isn't exactly a bastion of reliable Microsoft banter -- we turn to the likes of Mary Jo Foley for that, who's been providing much of the guidance on Pink so far -- but it's an interesting rumor that we think holds far more water than The Inquirer's bunk piece from a little under a year ago. Let's not forget that Danger has a history of procuring its own hardware, and that precedent has transferred to Microsoft by virtue of the purchase. If we see Microsoft+Sharp gear with GSM radios bow in a little over three months, you won't find our jaws on the floor.

If you're not much into hardware, then let me tell you a very simple thing - as lower the voltage needed by a certain chip, the lower its temperature. When overclocking processors, increasing voltage is the last thing to do to ensure the system works properly, but considering the small chips used these days in notebooks, and the fact that most of us have more computing power than needed on the road, we need even lower voltage chips to get things right.

According to various sources, Intel's Consumer Ultra Low-Voltage (CULV) initiative will have as leaders two of the largest PC makers,probably Dell and HP, both expected to come up with tiny notebooks with screens between 11 and 13 inches, sometime during this summer.
These sources also claim that Acer and ASUS should be hurt by these new releases, since they have a solid percentage of their income coming from that part of the market. Now, I only ask myself how similar to the ASUS Eee PC will be those new notebooks? The reason is obvious - you want to win a game, you have to play by its rules, and in the UMPC market, ASUS is the main player, as well as the one setting the rules.

What To Do If Your AdSense Account Gets Closed

Some mistakes though can hit where it really hurts and get your account closed. So what should you do if you get that dreaded email from AdSense informing you that your account has been shut down? Well, the first thing to remember is that you’ve pretty much got no power at all. Google’s Terms make it very clear that they have the right to kick someone out of their program whenever they feel like it and you have to prove your innocence.

But the people at Google aren’t a nasty bunch and they will listen to you if you feel you’ve been hard done by. Your first step then should be to send them an email asking why you’ve been banned.

The most likely reason will be invalid clicks. That might not mean that you’ve accidentally clicked your own ads. Google accepts that accidents do happen and takes occasional clicks like these into account. They’ll show up as clicks in your stats but you won’t earn revenue from them. Nor do you need to inform them every time your cursor accidentally lands on one of your ads. But if it’s more than occasional, you could be in trouble. It’s possible that someone else might have been clicking ads on your site repeatedly — perhaps a competitor hoping to hit your earnings or a family member who didn’t know it was forbidden.

It’s also possible that someone has stolen your AdSense code and placed it on their own site. It sounds strange, but publishers have been concerned about this so Google now lets you create a list of Allowed Sites. Only those click on those sites will count towards your income. And at least one publisher has been banned because the previous owner of the domain had clicked his own ads before the domain was sold.

Be sure to fill in all the fields in the form and provide as much information as possible. Be polite. Remember, Google’s system has detected a strange pattern in your click rate and is acting to protect its advertisers from paying for nothing. If Google has made a mistake, you want to help the company correct it, not annoy it so much it won’t want you back.

Someone will read your form, and you want to stay on that person’s good side. Provide proof of your innocence if you can and show that you’re genuinely trying to help them get to the bottom of the problem. If you spotted a click spike in your stats, tell them when you saw it and what you think might have caused it — if you have any suspicions. If you happen to know the IP address of the source of the multiple clicks, block it, supply it to Google and tell them you’ve blocked it.

And remind Google that you think its service is great and that you’d like to keep using it. There are plenty of stories around about publishers who got banned but were reinstated after appeal. If you can produce a good explanation of the events that led to your site being banned, there’s a good chance that you’ll be allowed back in. And if all else fails and you find yourself cut off, there’s always Yahoo! Publisher Network combined with Chitika and Kontera ads. It’s unlikely you’ll make as much as you did with AdSense, but you will still make something.

Y.S.R. Reddy buried, succession battle heats up

Tens of thousands of mourners shouted slogans and broke police barricades on Friday to catch a final glimpse of Y.S.R. Reddy, whose death has sparked a succession battle in Andhra Pradesh.

Y.S.R. Reddy who helped engineer the Congress party-led coalition's victory in a general election in May, was killed in a helicopter crash earlier this week, potentially weakening the party in Andhra Pradesh.

K. Rosaiah, the finance minister, was sworn in as caretaker chief minister until the party chooses a new leader, with several lawmakers favouring Reddy's son Jaganmohan, a first-term member of parliament from Reddy's home district of Kadapa.

A text message campaign, "Jagan as CM", is doing the rounds in the state, which has other contenders for the powerful post.

Schools and offices were shut and flags flew at half mast in Andhra Pradesh, where Congress leaders including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, party president Sonia Gandhi as well as leaders of the opposition paid their respects to "YSR", as he was known.

Thousands of mourners packed into a stadium in Hyderabad where Reddy's body was kept before it was flown in an army helicopter to his hometown Pulivendula for the burial on his family estate, beside his parents.

Reddy, who was known for championing popular causes and wooing investors, was given a state funeral, with Christian priests administering final rites.

Police beat back thousands of mourners holding aloft portraits and wreaths and shouting slogans of "Long Live YSR", as they broke past barricades to get closer to the coffin.

The cause of the helicopter crash, which killed all five on board in forested hills on Wednesday, has not been established.

India's swine flu deaths jump to 116

Five people died of swine flu in India Friday, taking the toll due to influenza A (H1N1) virus to 116, health authorities said here.

While four deaths were reported from Bangalore, Karnataka, one person died in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Also during the day, 124 fresh cases were reported in the country, taking the total number of affected people to 4,488.

According to health authorities in Karnataka, the four deaths have taken the toll due to the H1N1 virus to 35 in the state.

A 38-year-old woman died at a government hospital Tuesday. Three men aged 27, 41 and 31 years died Wednesday, Sunday and Tuesday respectively.

However, their test reports arrived only Thursday, a health official said in Bangalore.

According to the health ministry, most fresh cases Friday were reported from Tamil Nadu where 33 people tested positive.

Maharashtra, which tops the chart with the maximum swine flu deaths and cases in the country, reported 21 new cases, taking the total cases in the state so far to 1,759.

In the national capital, 50 swine flu cases, including 24 children, were reported, taking its total number of Influenza A (H1N1) cases to 772. However, the health ministry said only 15 cases were reported from the national capital.

One patient was serious and under ventilation at the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital here, officials said.

According to the state health ministry, of the fresh cases 15 have been admitted to various designated hospitals and the rest 35 are home-quarantined.

'These 50 identified cases include 24 cases of children. One male patient is critical in the RML Hospital and is on dialysis and on the ventilator,' Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said.

She said that till date 772 cases have been reported in the city, of which 681 cases have been treated and discharged.

Walia also said that the situation is under control and the government is doing its best in providing treatment to swine flu patients in government hospitals.

She advised people to visit the doctor at the earliest in case they exhibit any symptom of swine flu.

Fresh cases were also reported from

Uttar Pradesh (30), Kerala (2), Haryana (1), Goa (1), West Bengal (1), Uttarakhand (1) and

Jammu and Kashmir (1).

Nano under the neem tree

Off the neglected, serpentine roads of Nakhrola village in Gurgaon district sits Satish Kumar's home. Around it lie his five acres of lush fields sown with til (sesame), arhar (lentils) and bajra (millets).

His two cows and their calves, tied to a post behind his house, yawn occasionally as they chomp on a pile of straw. And beneath the old neem tree in Satish Kumar's compound rests his gleaming silver Nano, the first to hit the road in north India.

In Nakhrola, Kumar is known simply as 'the man with the Nano'. On July 18, the day his Nano was delivered, it was celebration all the way.

"There were drums and dancing all around, all night long," remembers Kumar's wife Saroj (33). His mother Indira Devi (55) tells of how the rest of the village collected outside their home and everyone wanted to drive the car.

In a district where 33 per cent of the population is illiterate, Kumar became a celebrity overnight. Journalists from India and abroad descended on Nakhrola, followed the family all the way from the car showroom and spent the day with them.

Some Japanese reporters even camped for two days in his two-bedroom house. And, says Saroj, "When we drove to our temple in Manesar, the whole village followed us.

" But he does let his friends borrow the car. "Every day, someone or the other comes and asks for the keys," he says.

"Everyone here loves the Nano.".

India Loses Communication With Lunar Satellite

India's national space agency said communications with the country's only satellite orbiting the moon snapped Saturday and that its scientists were no longer controlling the spacecraft.

Radio contacts with Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft were abruptly lost at 0130 Saturday (2000 GMT Friday), the Indian Space Research Organization said.

The agency's monitoring unit near the southern city of Bangalore is no longer receiving data from the spacecraft, spokesman S. Satish told The Associated Press by telephone from Bangalore.

The spacecraft had completed 312 days in orbit and orbited the moon more than 3,400 times.

"We are studying the telemetry data and trying to figure out what is the problem," Satish said. The space agency had received a large volume of data from the spacecraft — which is slotted in an automatic orbit of the moon — and most of the scientific objectives of the mission had been met, he said.

The spacecraft had been controlled from a monitoring center at Byalalu, 18 miles (30 kilometers) southwest of Bangalore, sending it commands to change direction, speed and to focus the cameras. Satish said it was no longer receiving commands.

The launch of Chandrayaan-1 in October 2008 put India in an elite club of countries with moon missions. Other countries with similar satellites are the United States, Russia, the European Space Agency, Japan and China.

The US$80 million lunar spacecraft has had problems earlier too. In May, the satellite lost a critical instrument called the star sensor. Two months later, it overheated but scientists were able to salvage the craft and resume normal operations.

The spacecraft had completed around 95 per cent of the two-year mission's objectives, Satish said Saturday.

Scientists say the Chandrayaan project will boost India's capacity to build more efficient rockets and satellites, especially through miniaturization, and open research avenues for young Indian scientists.

Powerful Indian Politician Killed in Chopper Crash

On Thursday morning, air force helicopters found the crash site by tracking a mobile phone signal picked up after an SMS was sent at midday Wednesday to Reddy's bodyguard, who was also on the helicopter, Press Trust of India news agency reported, quoting an unidentified government official. It was not clear why the signal coordinates had not been traced the day before.

Rescuers finally reached the scene after hacking through hilly jungle. They found the mangled remains of the chopper and charred bodies of all five people on board. Reddy, 60, was accompanied by the bodyguard, an aide and two pilots.

The bodies were flown to the Andhra Pradesh capital, Hyderabad, and a state funeral was planned for Friday, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said.

Officials have yet to establish the cause, but say the privately owned chopper likely crashed because of bad weather. It lost contact with air traffic controllers about 45 minutes into the flight after taking off from Hyderabad.

"We are in deep mourning. We have a deep sense of grief, shock and loss at the passing away of the chief minister, and a tall leader of the Congress Party," Chidambaram told reporters in New Delhi, referring to the ruling party.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh praised the regional leader's commitment to the people of Andhra Pradesh, and his Cabinet described Reddy as "an eminent political leader, a farsighted statesman and an astute administrator."

Congress Party chief Sonia Gandhi said Reddy was a "man of vision and dynamism."

Mourners pay last respect as YSR's body reaches hometown

The body of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy was flown on Friday afternoon to Pulivendula, his native town in Kadapa district, for burial.

The body was flown in an army helicopter from Begumpet airport here after thousands of people paid their last respects at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in the state capital.

YSR, who died in a chopper crash Wednesday, will be laid to rest at the family estate Edupulapaya in Pulivendula town by the side of his parents.

A stampede at the stadium forced authorities to move the body to the airport an hour before schedule. Police failed to control the surging mourners, who broke barricades at several points to rush towards the body kept on a pedestal in the middle of the ground.

Several people were injured, some of them seriously, as police used force to control the crowds. As the situation was going out of control, the late leader's son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy had a word with military and police officers to shift the body to the airport.

More than 60 people across Andhra Pradesh have died of shock or committed suicide after the death of their chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, prompting his MP son Y S Jagannathan Reddy to appeal to his late father's admirers to be patient and brave.

"I appeal to all of you to be patient and be brave in this hour of tragedy. He (YSR) wanted to see a smile on the faces of all and if you resort to such things (suicide) this will hurt him," said Jaganmohan, trying to hard to control his tears.

"I request you not to commit suicide," said Jaganmohan, who was elected to Lok Sabha from Kadapa in recent elections and is being seen by many as the next chief minister.

The appeal before the camera was telecast on all Telugu television channels.

Telugu television channels estimated that 67 people died of shock on hearing the news of their leader's death in a horrific air crash Thursday or committed suicide, unable to bear the loss. Most of those who died of shock were watching news of YSR's death on television.

This is the first time in the state's history that such a large number of people have died over the death of any political leader.

YSR, as the late leader was popularly known, has surpassed in death the popularity of actor and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder N.T. Rama Rao who died in 1996.

A large number of those who died of shock included young supporters of YSR and the beneficiaries of the various welfare schemes launched by him in the last five years. They suffered a cardiac arrest following the news of the chief minister's death in the helicopter crash.

The deaths were reported from 19 out of 23 districts in the state. In the coastal district of West Godavari, six people died of shock and four committed suicide.

"YSR dedicated his life to people, I am dedicating my life to him," a youth wrote in his suicide note before consuming pesticide.

A physically handicapped couple, who were getting monthly pension under a welfare scheme, attempted suicide by jumping into the Godavari river but were saved by fishermen.

In Hyderabad, 42-year-old Yadgiri died of shock while watching news of YSR's death on television. M Srinivas, 30, suffered cardiac arrest.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and a host of party leaders today paid homage to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YSR Reddy this morning.

The Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Defence Minister A K Antony and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit placed wreaths on Reddy's body at the Chief Minister's Camp office in Begumpet area.

Andhra cabinet wants YSR's son as next chief minister

Within hours of the death of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in a helicopter crash, the state cabinet passed a resolution urging the Congress party's central leadership to make his son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy the next chief minister.

The cabinet meeting, presided over by caretaker Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, passed the resolution demanding that Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy be named successor to his father.

Ministers loyal to Rajasekhara Reddy were unanimous that the young MP should be made the next chief minster. This will be a real tribute to YSR, said minister of health D. Nagender.

The resolution was passed amid reports that over 100 legislators of the ruling party are supporting the demand. The legislators also met Union Minister for law and incharge of party affairs in the state M. Veerappa Moily to submit a memorandum.

Some Congress legislators also met Praja Rajyam Party president K. Chiranjeevi to request him to support Jaganmohan Reddy's candidature.

The Congress party has 155 members in the 294-member assembly.

A group of MPs also held a meeting here and decided to place their demand before Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

According to sources in the ruling party, the legislators have launched a campaign to demand that Jaganmohan be appointed the chief minister.

Jaganmohan's loyalists among party workers too have launched a campaign in this regard. Some workers sitting outside Gandhi Bhavan, the party headquarters in the city, said they would not accept anybody other than YSR's son to head the state government.

'When Indira Gandhi expired Rajiv Gandhi was made the prime minister. Why not Jagan be made chief minister now?' says an SMS message being circulated by Jaganmohan's followers.

Jaganmohan, an industrialist who runs the Sakshi daily and a television channel, was elected from Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency in the April-May elections.

YSR was killed in a chopper crash while travelling to Chittoor from Hyderabad in inclement weather Wednesday. The mangled remains of the helicopter and the bodies of the chief minister and four others accompanying him were located Thursday morning in the Nallamalla jungles.

If you are in the market to purchase a computer there are many options in existence. You can purchase a Hewlett Packard, Gateway, IBM, or a custom built system. But there is one thing that all of these computers will utilize and that is a CPU (central processing unit). The CPU is responsible for interpreting and executing instructions for the motherboard. CPU's are key to the functioning of your new computer. CPU's from Intel and AMD power virtually every personal computer that you can purchase today.

The argument over an AMD CPU versus an Intel CPU and which has a higher functionality is currently raging. Simply two years ago this was not even a question. Anyone would tell you that the Intel CPU won the speed and complex algorithm war with AMD CPU's without question. Fast-forward to today and Intel is now playing catch-up to the latest in AMD technologies.

Intel played marketing games with their CPU's pricing them high and touting the functionality that they posses as cutting edge. AMD started out as the cheap alternative CPU manufacturer for computer brands such as e-Machines and low-end Compaqs. From the beginning, AMD CPU's were fighting an uphill battle to catch up with the technology in the Intel CPU. As the years have progressed, AMD has progressed.

But the underlying architecture was sound. The AMD 64 bit CPU was soon running stable and fast. The performance of this AMD CPU caught the Intel CPU team off guard.

Intel had to rush to market their EMT64 CPU to compete with this upstart challenge from AMD. The next item on the board was dual CPU power. Again, AMD one-upped the Intel CPU rule.

AMD CPU's have the information transfer on a dual chip machine flowing through the chips. The Intel dual CPU has a bridge to the motherboard where the information that is being processed by the dual CPU's flows for splitting.

The internal data flow in the AMD CPU's allows them to function with lower heat generation than the dual core Intel CPU's. As a consumer this lower heat generation allows the AMD CPU to last longer than the Intel CPU.

If you are energy conscious, then the AMD CPU will be for you as well. The AMD CPU equipped motherboard will function with approximately 275 watts of power. Compare that to a similarly equipped Intel processor at 400 watts of power, and you have major energy savings by going to the AMD CPU.

So where do the Intel CPU's win out over the AMD CPU's? The Intel CPU's are able to function faster with single programs. So, if you are going to play one game and only that game on your machine, the Intel CPU equipped machine can pull and analyze the data faster. However add in chat and e-mail running in the background and the AMD CPU machine catches up.

All in all, the CPU processor war that is currently waging between AMD and Intel is great for the consumer. Each company is in the middle of a CPU processor one-upmanship and both are looking to gain market share.

There's a war going on and the latest battle continues to offer the promise of good prices to consumers looking for the best stuff for their computer.

Since the inception of dual-core processors a little while back the race has been on to see who can get the better chip with this dual-core processor technology.

During the final days of the single-core battles, there was a stalemate between AMD and Intel. Intel's clocked higher but were unable to match the speeds that the AMD managed at lower clock speeds.

The oldest difference between them has been their suitability for specific tasks. AMD have had the gaming sector in the bag, especially in terms of the value for money possible with their lower clocked chips, which could be overclocked to the same speeds as their top models. Intel has the crown for general performance. When it comes to office related tasks, Intel processors are able to outperform AMD chips in these areas.

As the ability to clock the chips any higher became more and more difficult technically, the next step was to just add another core, theoretically allowing twice as much number crunching in a dual-core processor. This is not exactly how it works however.

Modern operating systems and programs have not been designed with multiple-core or dual-core processors in mind. They were designed to make use of one core on one processor. The major expense that went with multiple processor computers was the circuitry needed to split tasks up amongst the processors and sharing cache.

Dual-core processors simply act like two places for tasks to go. Instead of single tasks getting split up and performed in two different places, as is the case with traditional single core processors, single threads get split up amongst the cores. This essentially means that each program gets assigned to a core.

Because of this there is absolutely no increase in speed for gaming from dual-core processor chips. Only once the games themselves have been programmed to take advantage of dual-core processors will there be a difference.

This is due to the intensive nature of games and the number crunching needed for intense graphics, which for now cannot be split over multiple cores in dual-core processors.

So back to the battlefield.

AMD were the first to introduce their dual-core processor solution to a desktop computer. This gave them a slight lead over Intel. Despite this, AMD gave people a bit of a surprise with their new offering.

Always having been renowned for giving far more than expected for the price, these new dual-core processors were very expensive. Part of what managed to give AMD a hold in a market previously dominated by Intel was their good pricing. This shock did not go down well with consumers.

To add insult to injury, Intel's dual-core processor offerings came in at remarkably good value. Both of their initial dual-core processors cost less than AMD's lowest priced model. That's right, AMD's cheapest dual-core processor cost more than Intel's most expensive. This definitely put the ball in Intel's court and was downright disappointing for AMD fans.

AMD did manage to introduce a cheaper model to compete better with the Intel offerings. Despite this, Intel was still the forerunner in this area.

Performance remains an area that is sketchy.

With the relatively new technology involved it is hard to draw a clear conclusion on who is faster. With operating systems only recently oriented towards fully utilizing dual-core processor technology, it is still new territory. Both offer increased performance, but as to who will rule the roost, we'll have to see.
For the meantime it would probably be advisable to just watch. Being a cautious buyer I prefer to buy into a sure thing, once things have settled down, prices will balance out and all the related technology will be in place. Then we will be able to get a true opinion on where to put your hard earned cash.

"Big Bang" collider to restart with less energy

The giant particle collider built to probe the origins of the universe will restart in November at a lower energy level following its shutdown days after its inauguration last year, CERN said on Thursday.

The more than 10 billion Swiss franc ($9.4 billion) machine over-heated and needed to be switched off just nine days after its inauguration in September 2008. Its experiments are meant to reproduce conditions just after the "Big Bang" that scientists believe created the universe.

In a statement, CERN said it planned to restart the Large Hadron Collider with 3.5 Tera-electron volts (TeV) per beam -- less energy than on its initial go -- "because it allows the LHC operators to gain experience of running the machine safely while opening up a new discovery region for the experiments."

It will continue at the lower energy "until a significant data sample has been collected and the operations team has gained experience in running the machine," CERN said. "Thereafter, with the benefit of that experience, the energy will be taken toward 5 TeV per beam."

CERN Director General Rolf Heuer sought to reassure the public and the backers of the machine, whose 27-km (17-mile) collider tunnel lies underground just outside Geneva, that all will run smoothly when it starts up again.

"The LHC is a much better understood machine than it was a year ago," he said. "We can look forward with confidence and excitement to a good run through the winter and into next year."

The experiments would take place at just above absolute zero to recreate the conditions believed to have been present at the beginning of the universe 13.7 billion years ago.

The orbiting Kepler telescope has spotted a Jupiter-sized planet around another star -- a sighting that demonstrates it can see Earth-like planets if they are out there, scientists reported on Thursday.

The planet, called HAT-P-7b, was already among the 300 or so known so-called extrasolar planets, the team led by the U.S. space agency NASA reported. But measurements of its orbit by Kepler show the telescope will be able to see smaller planets, they reported in the journal Science.

"We think it is likely that Kepler is going to find oodles and oodles of Earths," astrobiologist Alan Boss of the Carnegie Institution of Washington told a news conference.

Boss said one day "we'll be able to stand outside ... and say 'Hey kids, look out there see that star? That one has an Earth".

The team, led by William Borucki of the NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California, said the telescope not only detected the "hot Jupiter", which orbits very close to its sun, but was able to get readings that could give information about its atmosphere.

This ability will help scientists tell whether Earth-like planets have water or oxygen on their surfaces.

Kepler was launched in March with the specific goal of finding Earth-sized planets that might support life outside our solar system. It orbits the sun behind the Earth and in theory should be able to spot things that Earthbound telescopes and even the orbiting Hubble telescope cannot.

It uses a standard planet-hunting method -- watching for the slight dimming of a star's light as a planet passes in front of it.

Borucki's team is looking at data from Kepler's observations of more than 50,000 stars. "The question remains how many Earths are there out there for Kepler to find," Boss said.

Today the World witnessed a supernal sight of the magnificent diamond ring that occurs once in 100 years. The solar eclipse was visible for nearly three minutes after it occurred. Certain locations marked this historic event as the “longest solar eclipse of the 21st Century”. Starting at around 1:32am (GMT) the eclipse lasted for 6 minutes and 39 seconds.

On Twitter@AstronomyMag kept the viewers updated about each movement of the moon coming in the sun’s way which is a rare sight. The clouds played hide-and-seek but still astro-enthusiasts gathered at several places. They got their prize as they got a glimpse of the sun. Eighty-three per cent of the sun dial was obscured by the moon.

The Government of Gujarat explained how beautiful the solar eclipse could look. They also advised the citizens to take precautions before viewing the eclipse. Moblin - Intel's Open Source OS

Moblin is Intel's open source Linux based operating system built specifically for the new breed of computers called netbooks that run Intel's propreitory Atom x86 chips. As it is targeted at Netbooks segment, the operating system developed by the world's largest chipmaker is more focussed and centred around Internet and Multimedia, and less on productivity tools such as office suites. It is more about twittering, updating social networking profiles and watching movies on the go. For those who cannot live without an office suite, there are many online alternatives, most of them free such as Google docs and zoho writer ...... but surprisingly the moblin developers seem to have steered away from Google as the OS does not support Google gears and uses Yahoo! as the default and 'recommended' search engine. The developers do seem out of touch with times for this surprising choice.

Technically, Moblin is nothing but a linux distro, but benefits largely from its uniquely tweaked refinements and a radical user interface. Missing from this OS are popular linux softwares such as GIMP ( GNU image manipulation program ) and openoffice.org .Though the distro is based around the familiar GNOME/GTK desktop environment, the fact is easily overlooked and largely invisible because of the UI improvements.

The offline functionality of this OS is limited to playing movies and music. Being free of charge and based on the widely used x86 chips, you can download and try it for yourself on virtually any computer or using OS virtualization solutions such as virtualbox or VMware fusion. However it's requirement of 3D graphic drivers means its performance on VM software will be far from optimal. The first beta of Moblin 2.0 has just been released, so don't be surprised to find more than a few bugs.

On a weekend trip in 1983, a Bay Area biotechnology scientist had a flash of inspiration. Kary Mullis, Ph.D., realized that a combination of readily available laboratory reagents and materials would promote the exponential replication of DNA in a test tube. He realized that over a billion copies of a DNA fragment could be made in an afternoon! Upon returning to Cetus Corporation, he started laboratory work that would lead to a revolutionary patent.

In 1987, US Patent 4,683,202 "process for amplifying nucleic acid sequences" issued. The Polymerase Chain Reaction or PCR method would soon be used world wide to perform biotechnology experiments, clone genes, identify pathogens, and convict criminals. It also did not take long for it to make the leap to Hollywood: PCR was highlighted in the movie Jurassic Park and is used weekly in the CSI television series.

A patent is a monopoly granted by the US government on inventions. Hoffman-La Roche, a Swiss pharmaceutical giant recognized the commercial potential for PCR and purchased the family of PCR patents for $300 million in 1990. The original Mullis patent expired a few years ago, but a "picket fence" of other patents still protects various aspects of the method. Hoffman-La Roche licensed the technology broadly and has developed many of its own products based upon the method. The return on investment of their $300 million has been huge!

A patent can be issued on "any new and useful process, machine, manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement method". Microsoft Windows 7 to Be Better Than Vista?

Microsoft had some really good applications that made them what they are today... And one of those is Windows XP which brought much reputation and satisfied customers to Microsoft. And it really is a great OS. But when Microsoft announced Windows Vista, many users were excited and curious about new look and feel of Vista and many of them it will be much better than XP. But that's where disapointment comes in. After migrating to Vista, many users found this new operating system quite annoying and full of errors and bugs which really couldn't be ignored.

So again people started going back to XP and many of them tried as much as possible to avoid Vista. It's simply because XP was far more stable and faster than Vista. Much less RAM memory demand and less annoying pop-ups and warnings.

And now it is the time when Microsoft realized their mistakes and I hope they learned something. And we all hope that they will use all these complaints on Vista to their advantage and make something better out of Windows 7 that should be released somewhere in 2009. And indeed, people who tested some pre betas of Windows 7 noticed that there are visible improvements. For example, there is added option to choose how much do you need those tray notifications to be prompted by Windows. If you are more Advanced user you will probably disable those or adjust them to minimum.

Look and feel are better too. And the best thing is that even that great look doesn't affect computer performance and RAM memory like Vista did. Windows 7 will be far much faster and reliable. That was noticed in pre beta versions and I hope Microsoft will go even further and make those really well.

Overall: I think this windows 7 could be something that we all have been waiting for. Something that will help people do their jobs better and more efficient. I am looking forward to this more stable, better looking and faster version of Windows - Windows 7!

The taskbar will be changed to, the quick launch icon has been removed and replaced with pinning programs and applications to the taskbar. The new task bar is easier and more practical, but maybe you will need some time to get used to it. The new layout has some practical features and it can make some of your Windows transparent just by dragging your mouse over the icon, which can be really helpful in some situations.

Microsoft has published information on minimum system requirements needed to use Windows 7. Microsoft has released an application that works as an advisor, it scans your computer to see if it is compatible for Windows 7.

For 32 bit system minimum system requirements for Windows 7 are following: 1 GB of RAM, Processor should be minimum 1 GHz, graphic card should support direct x 9 and it should have at least 128 MB of graphics memory, it requires 16 GB of hard disk space. For 64 bit things are different: At least 2 GB of RAM, processor 1 GHz, Graphic card that supports direct x 9 with 128 MB of graphics memory and at least 20 GB of free hard disk space is required for installation.

Intel I7 Core has two "younger brothers" in the category. The Intel I7 Core 920 and Intel I7 Core 940.

First of all, let us discuss the Architecture of Intel I7 Core 965 EE (Extreme Edition) and find out what changes have been made to it. When the Turbo Mode is disabled I7 core 965 gave a distinct 15 % increase in the speed. While enabling the Turbo Mode gave a performance higher by 19.5 % which is very impressive. While we tested the two cores for PCMark Vantage, the data we gathered impressed us showing clear signs of Performance shift on the higher side with the I7 core 965 EE overclocked.

Without Overclocking the processor the I7 core outperformed Core 2 Quad Q9650 by 53% and overclocking it gave a performance boost as high as 75%. This is a superb performance that you can expect.

All the other processor looked old like the using Pentium II series in comparison with the I7 Cores. 1. The best advice on how to learn to trade profitably is to learn from experts with proven track records. Many learning styles are available to beginners at all levels: books, CDs, online courses, group seminars, even one-on-one mentors who will come right your home for a few days. Learning to trade from experts is worth every penny and has saved us untold thousands in mistakes.We would not recommend starting forex trading without any training. It is not hard to learn, nor difficult to trade successfully, but you must first provide yourself with a basic functioning knowledge of ’the game you’re in’.

2. While you are learning you will need charting software to practice reading the Market. Charting is an indispensable tool that shows you in real-time data what the market is doing moment by moment and also what the market has done in the past. As you learn to analyze these charts you can determine what trades to enter and exit, where to set your stop losses, limits etc. There are several good charting software services that you can subscribe to online monthly. 3. Then, to perform your actual trades online you need a real-time ’trading platform’ to execute your ’buys’ and ’sells’ directly in the Foreign Currency Market. You obtain a trading platform from a Forex Clearinghouse that is connected real-time to the interbank market. There are many good Clearinghouses (also confusingly called Brokerage Firms, Market Makers, etc.) that provide you with the trading platform to trade the funds in the account you have opened with them. Before you begin trading your ’real’ money, while you are learning, you will practice on your own ’demo account’ with play-money in it, which will be provided to you by the clearinghouse you plan to trade through. The contractual relationship you enter into with your Clearinghouse is a very important one because the Clearinghouse you choose determines many trading features and financial advantages to you both as a trader and as an investor. To trade successfully you also must have good charting software and instantaneous data feeds critical to helping you analysis and interpret the movement of currencies moment to moment so you know when/why to buy or sell — this you subscribe to monthly. You can get a 2 week or more demo to familiarize yourself with one that has the features you like. The costs also vary, and some companies require a year commitment. There are some free charting services offered through the clearinghouses, but they tend to lack the tools to be truly useful. There are also some costly proprietary Specialty Software charting ’hybrids’ which are market forecasters tools that look more like video games than charts.

A good clearinghouse (i.e.. your computer access/link to the live Forex Exchange Market) is the partner with which you trade the money you have deposited with them in your trading account. After trying and demo-ing many we have found a small handful that are truly excellent for the beginner (and continue to be excellent as you grow) — meaning user friendly, legally accountable to regulatory bodies, and offering fair costs (spreads) for their services/trading software platforms. There still are many worrisome ones practicing in this closing era of unregulated forex trading (new Commodities laws are imminent).

The topic of matching the right clearinghouse for your needs is discussed more in Tools of the Trade, because it depends on a number of factors — how much you can open an account with, how much the clearinghouse profit spread, what your liquidity needs are, your minimum/maximum stop loss and margin requirements, even where you live and how much time you have to give to trading in a 24 hr. day.

How Much Does it Cost to Begin to Trade?

Learning to trade will entail the cost of books and whatever traiining method you choose. It will also include a reliable computer with a minimum 128 Mb of memory to run the charting software and trading platform. Ongoing ’costs of operation’ include the monthly costs of high-speed internet, charting software, the email forecasting subscriptions — plan on spending $150./mo. up for ongoing costs.

What about Pooled Clearinghouse Accounts to Trade with More Leverage?

We strongly do not recommend pooled accounts in any circumstance. Perhaps you are considering self-trading a pooled- together family account because it would give you a perceived advantage of more leveraged funds to trade (50:1 up to 100:1 leverage) — any risks of loss represent a potential risk to family relationships, and for this reason alone we do not recommend aggregating with family or friends.

However much worse are the too-numerous negative experiences of people allowing their investment funds to leave their control to become part of a ’managed’ pooled account. Not only is it a very risky investment idea, it is illegal for anyone to ’pool’ accounts without compliance with SEC (a USA Securities Exchange Commission) or international equivalent license. Never relinquish direct control over your money/trading account to anyone (i.e.. the ability to make withdrawals, deposits etc. directly by your own authority into your own account).

A good fund manager, if you do choose to go the (legitimate) Managed Account route rather than the Self-Trader route, will make certain you have your own ’segregated account’ in your own name in a bank or brokerage firm. These individual segregated accounts can still be traded together as though they were in a single account by a designated trader as long as the clearing house uses a trading platform that allows it. You, as the investor/account holder, have direct access online to your account activity at all times, and direct control over your own account in your own name (just like a bank account). The importance of this, for the safety of your funds, cannot be over emphasized.

Day Trading Indicators and Indicator Trading

Did You Begin Day Trading As An Indicator Only Trader?

Did you start day trading after buying a book on technical analysis, and getting a charting program - probably a free one that you found online - in order to save money? While reading your book you learned about trading indicators which could ’predict’ price movement, and what do you know, the ’best’ indicators were actually included in your free charting program - let the games begin.

Now that you have all the day trading tools that are necessary, the book for education AND the free charting program with those ’best’ day trading indicators, you now need a day trading plan so you can decide which ones of those ’magic’ day trading indicators you are supposed to use. This really is a great book, besides telling you how to day trade using indicators to ’predict’ price - it also said that you need a trading plan to day trade.

So what should this plan be? The book told you about trend following using an indicator called macd, and it also told you how it was possible to pick the top or bottoms using an indicator called stochastic; my guess is that you picked the stochastic indicator to start your day trading - this must be the ’best of the best’ since this indicator was going to ensure you of entering your trades with the ’best’ price. Amazing, simply amazing how easy this day trading stuff really is. In fact, why even bother taking the trades, each time your indicators give a signal - just call up your broker and tell him to stick $100 in your account.

My book was Technical Analysis of the Futures Markets. My charting program was TradeStation with an eSignal fm receiver; that was the one that if you hung the antennae wires just right, and you put enough foil on the tips, you might even get quotes. I had sold a business before I started trading so I did have some capital - isn’t that how everyone gets into trading, you either sell a business or you lose your job? My indicator was the macd as I had decided that I was going to be a ’trend follower’ instead of a ’top-bottom picker’. I also decided that I was going to be ’extra’ clever, if one indicator was good than two indicators must be better, so I added a 20 period moving average. My first trade was a winner, then after many months of extensive therapy, I was finally able to forget the next twelve months - ahhh the memories ƒ؛

Learning To Day Trading - The Learning Progression

Beginning to day trade, or learning to day trade, as an indicator trader is very typical. This is also logical when you consider - HOW are you supposed to initially learn how to trade? Trading indicators are available to anyone who has a charting program, and simply using line crosses, or histogram color changes, provide ’easy’ signals to understand. If you will also take the time to learn the arithmetic behind your indicators, as well as learning what each indicator is specifically intended to do, not only is this a logical way to begin, it is also a good ’step’ in your learning progression - understanding the WHAT you are doing, instead of attempting to create ’canned’ indicator only trading systems, without any regard as to WHY you are trading this way.

This does become one of the ’sticking’ points in your learning progression, as you come to find out that you are unable to profitably trade indicators as signals only - now what? Now what - you ’can’t’ develop your own indicators, so you start doing google searches for day trading indicators and start buying your ’collection’ - they don’t ’work’ either. Now what - you buy a mechanical trading system - what does hypothetical results may not be indicative of real trading or future results mean? Now what - you start subscribing to signal services OR you start joining the ’latest and greatest’ chat room - am I really the only person using the signals who isn’t profitable?

Now what - you never learn how to trade.

I began trading as an indicator trader, and I did try to learn everything that I could about the various indicators, as well as trying to combine indicators that were consistent with how I wanted to trade - I just could never develop a mechanical day trading system from what was available to me. I read a couple more books that didn’t really help me, so I then started looking for someone who could teach me. From what I now know about gurus -vs- teachers, I am very lucky that I got involved with a money manager-trader who taught me a tremendous amount, but I still couldn’t get profitable, in part because there was also ’pressure’ to learn how to trade using real money. As well, any discussions or thoughts about trading psychology and the issues involved, especially to beginning traders, was non-existent.

Now what - learning but losing - I stopped trading. Learning to trading using real money, and ’scoffing’ at trading psychology as simply individual weakness, really was something that I now regard as misinformation. I always mention this as I now feel that this cost me as much as a year of time, and was very close to costing me my trading future, as stopped trading was VERY close to quitting trading. How can’t trading psychology be real to a beginner, when you consider that you are risking losing money at a very fast pace as a day trader, and when you further consider that you are also doing this when you really don’t know what you are doing - this is NOT by definition being weak. And if trading psychology is real, how are you going to learn to make ’good’ trading habits with real money while you are fighting the implications?

Now what - not trading and not ready [quite] to quit - still studying and searching.

Probably the single most important ’thing’ that got me to a next step in learning how to trade, was the concept of a trading setup, and that a setup and a signal were not the same. This was extremely meaningful to me, as it also led to an understanding of how to better use trading indicators for the information that they can provide, but not to use them as trading signals - in essence I began learning about trading method where discretion could be consistently applied -vs- trading system that was mechanical and arithmetic rules.

Traders who are indicator only traders, are also what I refer to right side only traders, that is they are always looking at the right side of their charts for an indicator signal. BUT what about the left side of the chart, what about price and patterns, what about market conditions - WHAT about the relevant ’things’ that are ’moving’ price, instead of indicators only as an arithmetic derivative of price, and thus, one that is dependant on the time frame that you have chosen to trade from? These ’thoughts’, along with the concept of trade setup, became instrumental in the development of a trading method, and how I came to turning my trading around.

When I think about the steps in my learning progression - I would list them as follows:

Indicator Only Day Trader - Setup Including Indicators Method Day Trader

I have attempted to discuss the way I started day trading, and the way I think many-most traders typically begin. Along with this, I have pointed various issues and problems that I had - those regarding how to learn to trade, and then progressing into a profitable trader. My experiences have been both personal, as well as those of many traders that I have worked with over the last 8-9 years through Tactical Trading - that a very large number of these problems are due to day trading only with indicators, the specific indicators used, along with trying to turn these indicators into a mechanical trading system. Using the 10 Day Moving Average of the VIX (Volatility Index) to time a Reversal in the the S&P 500

Investors can get an idea of when the market may reverse when the 10 Day Moving Average (MA) of the Volatility Index (VIX) becomes significantly stretched away from its 10 Day Moving Average (MA). A simple example is shown below which compares the 10 Day MA of the VIX to the S&P 500.

Notice when the VIX got stretched significantly away from its 10 Day MA (blue line) to the upside (points A) that the S&P 500 made a bottom (points B) and then reversed to the upside.

Thus keeping track of where the Volatility Index is in relation to its 10 Day Moving Average can give investors a clue to when the market may be getting close to a near term bottom and possible upside reversal.

Forex Trading: The Perfect Forex Trading System

Trading the Forex market has become very popular in the last few years. But how difficult is it to achieve success in the Forex trading arena? Or let me rephrase this question, how many traders achieve consistent profitable results trading the Forex market? Unfortunately very few, only about 5% of traders achieve this goal. One of the main reasons of this is because Forex traders focus in the wrong information to make their trading decisions and totally forget about the most important factor: Price behavior.

Most Forex trading systems are made off technical indicators. But what are technical indicators? They are just a series of data points plotted in a chart; these points are derived from a mathematical formula applied to the price of any given currency pair. In other words, it is a chart of price plotted in a different way that helps us see other aspects of price.

There is an important implication on this definition of technical indicators. The fact that the readings obtained from them are based on price action. Take for instance a long MA crossover signal, the price has gone up enough to make the short period MA crossover the long period MA generating a long signal. Most traders see it as "the MA crossover made the price go up," but it happened the other way around, the MA crossover signal occurred because the price went up. Where I’m trying to get here is that at the end, price behavior dictates how an indicator will act, and this should be taken into consideration on any trading decision made.

Trading decisions based on technical indicators without taking price action into consideration will give us less accurate results. For example, again a long signal generated by a MA crossover as the market approaches an important resistance level. If the price suddenly starts to bounce back off that important level there is no point on taking this signal, price action is telling us the market doesn’t want to go up. Most of the time, under this circumstances, the market will continue to fall down, disregarding the MA crossover.

Don’t get me wrong here, technical indicators are a very important aspect of trading. They help us see certain conditions that are otherwise difficult to see by watching pure price action. But when it comes to pull the trigger, price action incorporation into our Forex trading system will definitely put the odds in our favor, it will generate higher probability trades.

So, how to create a perfect Forex trading system?

First of all, you need to make sure your trading system fits your trading personality; otherwise you will find it hard to follow it. Every trader has different needs and goals, thus there is no system that perfectly fits all traders. You need to make your own research on various trading styles and technical indicators until you find a concept that perfectly works for you. Make sure you know the nature of whatever technical indicator used.
Secondly, incorporate price action into your system. So you only take long signals if the price behavior tells you the market wants to go up, and short signals if the market gives you indication that it will go down.
Third, and most importantly, you need to have the discipline to follow your Forex trading system rigorously. Try it first on a demo account, then move on to a small account and finally when feeling comfortably and being consistent profitable apply your system in a regular account.

Biotech research can involve anything in the life sciences, from “human health and computational disease mapping to crop and tree improvements,” as those studies are done by students at the Biotech Research Center at Michigan Tech, from “forensics, [the] testing of biotoxins, and management of the nation’s organ transplantation process” to “drug development, medical diagnostics, biomedical engineering, and environmental analysis,” such as those done at Virginia Biotechnology Research Park, or from biogenetic engineering, farming, or nutritional assessment and engineering to toxicology, biomedical imaging and engineering, or food, drug, and environmental technologies, as conducted by University of California Biotechnology Research and Education Program (UC BREP).

How much a person in biotech research makes depends on what funding the biotech research facilities are backed by. At the Biotech Research Center at Michigan Tech, for instance, funding is at $8.3 million, provided by such organizations as the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE),the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institute of Health (NIH), and the U.S. Drug Administration (USDA).
